GUJRANWALA, Aug 11: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 issued non-bailable warrant for arrest of the Sialkot jail incident’s main accused, former DS Malik Iftikhar Husain.

The judge directed the police higher-ups to produce the accused in court on the next date of hearing.

The court granted 10-day physical remand of the former jail official accused of supplying arms at the jail, and his associates, head warden and warden. Assistant Superintendent (jail) Akhtar Iqbal, Raja Mushtaq and Ghulam Sarwar were sent to jail on a judicial remand.

Meanwhile, the court handed down life term on four counts with Rs400,000 fine to Imran alias Mani, who had killed four people over an enmity.

According to the prosecution, Mani killed Nazir Ahmad, Ahmad Din, Muhammad Ramzan and Perveen Bibi, and injured Shamsher and Rashid Ahmad over an enmity at Fatehpur village, Shakargarh, in September 2000.

The court has already handed down death sentence to his five accomplices while four accused, including a woman, had been declared proclaimed offenders.

SHOT DEAD: A man was shot dead while two others suffered hurts when their rivals targeted them over a dispute at Kot Inayat Khan village, Gakkhar Town, on Monday.

Reports said two groups, headed by Gulbahar and Muhammad Aslam, were at dagger’s drawn over a dispute.

Gulbahar and his men were at their outhouse when their rivals came there and, after exchanging harsh words, opened fire on them. The group’s head died instantly while Nadeem and Afzaal were grievously injured. They were hospitalized.

Police have registered a case against the suspects and claimed to have arrested two of them.

DROWNS: A minor girl drowned while playing at Nullah Wahando Saim, here on Monday.

Reports said Iqra, 5, was playing at the bank of the drain when she slipped and swept away by strong gushing water.

The local residents searched out her body after half an hour’s struggle.
