APROPOS your editorial ‘Pak-India culture ties’ (July 20). The other side of the picture may be like this: Before Bollywood movies were allowed to be exhibited in Pakistan, the Pakistani industry was making strides. The same is the case with Pakistani dramas. But after their arrival, the Pakistani industry propelled backwards. Their industry is mature and Pakistan needs time for this. Just like what India did before opening up their economy to the world.
Further, the content that people see on the screen has a far-reaching psychological impact as well. Their industry is developed while our industry is developing. It’s natural that their products are better than those of ours.
Thus it creates a false sense of Indian superiority in the minds of an ordinary Pakistani. Moreover, the Indian content questions Pakistan’s ideology — one way or the other — and this has contributed to the weak nationalism in our beloved country as well.
Talking about the LHC decision, the ordinary Pakistani thinks that the court has encroached from its authority. Courts decide matters keeping in view the laws; they don’t, however, decide policy matters or give directions about it. The court should revisit its decision in the best national interest.
