KARACHI: A young man was shot dead and his wife critically wounded in SITE on Saturday, police said.

Rashid Ali, 26, was gunned down while his wife, Shabeena Arshad, also 26, was injured inside their rented home in the Valika area. The couple’s one-year-old girl remained safe in the shooting.

SITE SP Asif Ahmed Bughio told Dawn that the couple had married of their free will around two years back in Malakand and later they shifted to the SITE area, where they were living in a small room.

The SP said they might have been targeted by their relatives. He said the murder took place in the early hours of Saturday but the police were informed about it by a neighbour of the victims at around noon. By the time the police arrived at the crime scene, the man had died and the woman was not in a position to give a statement to the police.

The dead and the injured were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
