CHITRAL: District nazim Maghfirat Shah inaugurated work on road, water and irrigation projects in Garam Chashma valley here on Saturday.

Addressing inauguration ceremonies in different parts of the valley, the nazim said his government had given top priority to the development of the region, which was socially and economically backward due to the neglect of the successive governments.

He said the development of roads and irrigation channels would help improve the life of the local residents, especially potato and bean growers, whose crops were badly damaged by lack of facilities.

Mr Shah said the valley had rich ethnic, cultural and linguistic diversity, while its people were known for their capabilities throughout the district.

He said his government would continue working for the development of other areas of the district.

“The sanctioning of Rs20 million special package for this area’s development by senior minister Inayatullah Khan is part of our agenda,” he said.

District council member from the area Mohammad Hussain criticised the local provincial and national legislators for ‘ignoring’ their voters’ development and praised the local government for working for their welfare.

MAN KILLED: A man killed his elder brother in Beori Drosh area here on Saturday over a land dispute.

A local police official said Momin Khan escaped after killing Mir Alam Khan.

He said the police had registered a case against the suspect and were conducting raids to arrest him.

Meanwhile, the family laid the deceased to rest after his body underwent postmortem at the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Drosh.
