MURREE: Two operators and the owner of the improvised chairlift Doli that crashed near Murree on Thursday were arrested on Friday.

The chairlift owner, Saeedullah, from Lower Dir, was arrested from Chakdara along with two of the operators against whom a case has been registered on charges of running the illegal business.

The district administration has once again issued a directive banning the improvised chairlifts at the hill station.

For this purpose, the administration officials will carry out a survey to ascertain the exact number of illegal cable cars in the region, sources told this correspondent.

Meanwhile, the victims of the tragic incident were laid to rest in their native areas amidst moving scenes.

Their funerals were attended by a large number of people including political figures and notables, who demanded compensation for the deceased.

The makeshift cable car, operated by locals between Sharafani in Punjab and Banwari in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, plunged into a 400ft ravine at the Charra Pani hill station, killing 12 people on the spot and leaving two others critically injured on Thursday.

The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals.
