KASUR: The Pattoki police on Tuesday arrested its SHO and registered a case against him on the allegation of letting a fraud suspect off the hook hours after his arrest.

Police had arrested Sheikh Muhammad Nishat, owner of Brother Sugar Mills, on the complaint of a UK-based Pakistani over Rs4 million fraud.

Shahid Nazir who catapulted to fame with his ‘one pound fish’ song had returned from the UK in 2015 and claimed to have given Rs4 million to Sheikh Nishat to purchase the shares of the mill. Later, Nishat appropriated the amount as his business collapsed and he had to wind up the mill. Nazir alleged that Nishat embezzled his amount as well as that of farmers.

On the complaint of Nazir on June 6, the Pattoki Saddar police registered a case under section 406 of PPC against Nishat and arrested him on Monday. Nishat, however, escaped the police custody on Monday night.

District Police Officer Ali Nasir Rizvi suspended SHO Tahir Khan from service and had a case registered against him. Police also arrested the SHO and put him behind the bars.

On Tuesday, Pattoki’s newly-appointed SHO Muhammad Akram sought a two-day physical remand of the accused.

DROWNS: A boy drowned in canal while trying to control his cattle at Ghandia Otar village in the Saddar police jurisdiction on Tuesday.

Shafiq, 12, took his buffalo to the canal to bathe them. During the process he drifted towards the deep and drowned. His body was fished out after some time.
