TIMERGARA: The local residents have resented the long delay in the reconstruction of the girls’ higher secondary school in Chakdara and demanded necessary action on it by the education department.

They, mostly parents, told Dawn that the students were in distress as they had to attend classes in the open.

The people said the school’s building was demolished due to its bad condition after the education department signed an agreement with a foreign-funded organisation, Hamqadam, for its reconstruction.

They said local MPA Bakht Baidar Khan had inaugurated the start of work several months ago but its completion had suffered long delay.

The residents said the debris of the demolished building was auctioned long ago but it continued to be on the premises. They said the education department was supposed to remove the debris.

The people demanded the education department take notice of the situation and ensure the early completion of work on the school building.

They said they were ready to remove the rubble from the premises on their own if the department allowed them to do so.

When contacted, a representative of the ‘Hamqadam’ said the reconstruction of the school’s building begin after rubble was removed from the premises.
