LONDON: Crystal Palace’s former England manager Sam Allardyce has quit the Premier League club five months after being appointed and said on Tuesday that he does not plan to continue his 26-year career in coaching.
A season that started with Allardyce managing the England national team, before leaving after just one match in charge, ended with him guiding Palace safely away from Premier League relegation.
The 62-year-old Allardyce, who established his credentials during an eight-year spell with Bolton Wanderers, said he had “no ambitions to take another job”, admitting he was turning his back on a club that had offered him a “chance of rehabilitation”.
Allardyce took over at Palace from the sacked Alan Pardew in December, when the club was in 17th place just one point above the relegation zone. He had signed a 2-1/2 year contract and led the Eagles to eight wins in 21 games. They finished 14th in the league.
