MULTAN: The main accused in the Rs3 billion Wapda Employees Cooperative Housing Society scam allegedly attempted suicide on Monday morning. He is said to be critical.

On March 24, 2016, the Multan chapter of National Accountability Bureau had arrested WECHS former secretary Saeed Ahmad Khan on charges of embezzlement and filed two references against him.

Khan was shifted to Nishtar Hospital after he slit his throat at 5am.

The jail officials informed the media that Khan cut his throat with a shaving razor. He was moved to emergency ward of the hospital from where the doctors shifted him to intensive care unit due to his critical condition.

Doctors said blood flowed into his lungs which caused complications. They said the patient was put on ventilator. Sources alleged negligence on the part of the jail authorities, saying that at least three people should be imprisoned in a barrack but Khan was the lone prisoner in barrack No 6. The NAB filed two references against Khan and the next date of hearing [of main reference] is May 25.
