LAHORE: Government servants’ residential colonies in Lahore are expected to receive Sui-gas for domestic consumption before the year is out, it was learned here today [May 21].

At the top, in the list of the Sui Northern Gas Company among these colonies, is the Wahdat Colony, followed by the Chauburji Estate and the Post and Telegraph Colony.

A Company source here told the [agency] that negotiations were going on between the Company and the Model Town Society for supply of gas to Model Town.

If the Society agreed to the Company’s proposal of buying the gas on “bulk basis” for the whole area, Model Town might also have Sui-gas by the year’s end.

The source said that among other colonies, Samanabad residents had shown extreme keenness to use Sui-gas. However, their case would be taken up after the Wahdat Colony, Chauburji Estate and P and T Colony, which meant sometime next year.

At present, however, the Company is concentrating on Gulberg and was expected to cover a major portion of the posh area in a couple of months’ time; the only area where the Sui-gas is already being supplied these days is the Gazetted Officers Presidential Estate.

By the end of April, the number of Sui-gas consumers in Lahore was 206. Of these 150 were domestic users, 24 commercial — hotels, restaurants, eating houses (tea stalls etc) and 32 industrial — mills, factories, plants etc.

According to the source, the Company has drawn up a plan under which 100 new connections would be sanctioned every month. Of these 80 will go to domestic consumers, 15 to commercial and five to industrial concerns.

At present the Company has 708 applications for connections spending with it (567, domestic, 107 commercial and 34 industrial). — Agencies
