KOHAT: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Salahuddin Mehsud has inaugurated the first district level police access services (PAS) for speedy redressal of public complaints.

The PAS had been started in the office of police assistance lines which would be monitored by the regional police officers (RPOs), district police officers (DPOs) and the IGP himself.

Addressing a press conference here the other day, Mr Mehsud said that PAS had been instituted for effective system to redress people’s complaints as they would have direct access to the DPOs and RPOs. It would also spare the public from the hassle of visiting different offices to submit written applications.

He said that the benefit of the system was that the complaints would not be wasted, as each one would be directed to a verifiable databank.

IGP says officers will be bound to respond to public complaints

Mr Mehsud stated that the RPOs and DPOs would be bound to respond to any complaint about a crime or social evil on the same day and the issue would be resolved at the earliest under the supervision of seniors. For that matter, RPOs and DPOs would constantly stay in touch with the complainant, he added.

He said that the provincial and regional level public safety commissions and regional complaint authorities would be constituted within two or three weeks.

The IGP said that the members of district safety commission would be able to check the police stations if they got any information about illegal confinement.

He also said that people should not take the law into their hands in cases of religious sensitivities rather they should inform the local police, which would take prompt and strict legal action.

Meanwhile, a statement said that 10 drug peddlers were held from different parts of the district on Wednesday.

DPO Javed Iqbal had announced zero tolerance against drug sellers. The suspects were sent behind bars after recovery of 10 kilogrammes of hashish and cases were registered against them.

MUSHAIRA: A Pashto mushaira was held at the Kohat Institute of Medical Sciences in which renowned poets from Peshawar presented their famous poems and ghazals.

Famous poet Dr Abaseen Yousafzai presided over the function while Prof Tariq Mehmood Danish was the chief guest and Prof Bakhtzada Danish guest of honour.

The programme was attended by people from all walks of life, including teachers and students.
