The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday suspended all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz for two months following investigations into spot-fixing allegations in relation to the Pakistan Super League, a press release issued by PCB said.
According to the PCB's statement, the suspension period could be reduced to one month if certain conditions are fulfilled by the all-rounder.
First among the conditions is the payment of a fine of Rs0.2 million to the PCB, the press release adds.
The suspension period may also be reduced if "there is no additional breach of the PCB Code by Nawaz."
Earlier this week, Nawaz was issued a Notice of Charge by the PCB's Security and Vigilance Department for violating Article 2.4.4 of the anti-corruption code.
Nawaz was charged on allegations that he had failed to inform the PCB's security department about invitations by bookies to engage in spot-fixing, the press release issued by the PCB on Wednesday said.
As criticism against the alleged corruption of Pakistani cricketers grew after the spot-fixing scandal during the Pakistan Super League, PCB had launched a crackdown in an attempt to eradicate the menace from the sport and put those found guilty to task.

So if he doesn't pay the fine the ban will not be reduced from two months to one month?? Now the question is was the money made from spot-fixing worth the two months ban? If the money was worth it then this 'punishment' by the PCB is a joke. Any practice of corruption in cricket should have an automatic one year ban. At the moment the message is crime pays.

Knowing very well the gravity of the punishment meted out to most of the cricketers for match fixing, still these cricketers are indulging in same offense MUST be banned for life .I regret very much why this cricketers mostly from Pakistan indulging in match fixing and further spoiling the image of Pakistan.

mohammad nawaz is a top alrounder and he being banned for 2 months does hurt me... i think what he did was he just let his board that he was approached back in feb ... ICC and other nations are worried about Pakistan... aamir and asif were at top of the world both taken out by ICC cunning plan, just before the wc 2011 for 2 world cups and then just before wc 2015 they took out ajmal and hafeez as bowler and now just before champions trophy and westindian series Sharjeel is targetted and so is m irfan u have to look at the pattern why these things happen just before a big event ... anyway We are to be blamed for this... if we stay clean no one can touch us... ones making mistakes must be punished we bounced back from aamir asif blunder and we will come out of sherjeel mishap as well ... play fakhar zaman lets see how it goes we can create many sherjeels and many aamirs and many asifs no one is bigger than cricket itself so lets play fair game

Two months with chances of reduction is too lenient. The offense is too serious, minimum punishment should have been six months suspension with no reprieve.

Can't understand why there are different punishment to different players for the same offence. The difference in punishments between Sharjeel, Nawaz, Khalid Latif and Irfan in thhe current lot as well as between Kaneria and Aamir and Salim Malik are all different. strange is not it.

The players should be given education that how to handle such situations. Young minds & the background matters. So PCB should handle this intelligently.

That's the thing. He is not banned for taking money. He was invited by the bookies for spot fixing which he apparently declined. But he failed to notify the concerned authority in the PCB about this "invitation". So he's banned for not notifying, not for taking money.

I think PCB should frame a uniform policy on these issues, so that everyone is treated without any discrimination. I do not believe there is any conscpiracy theory to declare Pakistani players to keep them out.

For those asking for a life ban - the guy did not take any money from bookies, and did not meet any bookies. He was 'invited' to talk to bookies - an invitation he apparently did not accept. The punishment handed out to him is mainly for not telling PCB that bookies had tried to approach him. Makes no sense to hand out a life ban on that.

PCB is also accountable for lack of aawareness and reiterating rules before PSL. It is also failure of grooming programme for player. Executive responsibility demands that Mr. Shehryar and Mr. Sethi should either resign or be sacked. Kamran
