LAHORE: The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) will assist the Dubai police in digitalising their police stations and developing different systems, including cyber security system.

A formal request in this regard was made by chief of Dubai police Abdullah Khalifa at a meeting with PITB chairman Dr Umar Saif in Dubai on Sunday.

“The board will integrate all surveillance systems with police stations in Dubai. Besides, it will ensure cyber security of financial institutions and other departments, which will be part of a wider security network,” Dr Saif told Dawn from Dubai by phone.

He said that the PITB would develop a crowd monitoring system in connection with Dubai 2020 Expo. It will also digitalise traffic system in Dubai,” Dr Saif said, adding the board would develop all these systems in two years.

He said the PITB had an experience of digitalising 712 police stations in the 36 districts of Punjab. He said that the PITB was also assisting Nigeria to computerise their Haj operation.

Great job Punjab IT board.

NORISK May 08, 2017 08:27am

wow !! What about Punjab Police ?

Abdul Raheem May 08, 2017 08:29am

Excellent. How I wish PML N can make government in Sindh as well in the next term. PPP has ruined Karachi and the remaining Sindh.

Zahid Khan May 08, 2017 08:30am

How about Qatar? It is good at writing letters too.

MSAlvi May 08, 2017 08:36am

Is Pakistan really able to help Dubai? IT technology is a fast changing field. If Pakistan is not able to provide the latest technology, don't do it.

ILYAS KHAN May 08, 2017 08:38am

Really??? Have someone visited the Punjab police stations and what condition they are in? Before digitizing others, they should at least put some decent furniture in Punjab police station.

Chandra May 08, 2017 08:45am

So saudies are not able to digitalise theres police stations , god knows if there is no oil in sauudi arabia

Fast May 08, 2017 08:50am

@NORISK All stations already digitalised in Punjab.

Fast May 08, 2017 08:52am

Excellent PITB. Keep up the good work.

Qasim May 08, 2017 09:27am

Well done PITB

Emad May 08, 2017 09:41am

In Bangladesh we have very Big IT department

Akram May 08, 2017 09:47am

@Emad "In Bangladesh we have very Big IT department". Good to know. However this news is about Lahore and Dubai. But thanks for your contribution.

Raju May 08, 2017 09:48am

That's PML-N for you who actually reformed the police department, unlike PTI who did it only on papers and social media.

Nouman May 08, 2017 09:55am

Well, We haven't seen any digitization in any of the police station in Punjab. From FIR Registration to investigation, there is no relief to the people of Punjab from Poilce except who have some good relations with punjab police. First do something in home then offer it to the Dubai.

Altaf May 08, 2017 10:05am

The government should use these expertise to digitalise our Police all over Pakistan. Proud of you guys.

T2B May 08, 2017 10:05am

Good way to establish exportable skills and expertise. With successful implementations in the MENA region; the net could be cast further a field. This would enable establishing a viable knowledge based sector for the country

Muhammad Arshad May 08, 2017 10:15am

Good one

Justice May 08, 2017 10:17am

It's sad state of affairs that we are capable to digitalise foreign police stations yet we are INCAPABLE to digitalise our own in Pakistan. Charity begins at home.

riz May 08, 2017 10:28am

great great achievemet by PITB,, great work,, proud of you, this is how we as a nation can grow,,

Pingo May 08, 2017 10:29am

Emiratis are giving these freebis to be included in CPEC.

S Malik May 08, 2017 10:32am

These initiatives are great but how about "digitalising" your own home first?

Waasay Uddin May 08, 2017 10:35am

Its a little hard to authenticate this news since I have been living in Dubai since QUITE A few years and I don't think PITB is at a level where they can digitalize Dubai PS. Since Dubai Police is one famous for its technology and advancements in the world.

I really doubt the authenticity of this news. People who have Bentley and Bugatti in their fleet would look for PITB for help?

It might be a casual meeting/seminar. What so ever but the DUBAI is completely digital at this date. ALREADY

Bay Adab May 08, 2017 10:36am

Kudos to Punjab board and Dr. Saif

Imran latif May 08, 2017 10:38am

Good Job done.

Sohail Gem Wazir May 08, 2017 10:42am

Rising Pakistan. Kudos to PITB.

Indian May 08, 2017 11:02am

Congrats Pakistan! These kind of work creates a positive impact.

Abood May 08, 2017 11:11am

@Emad .dear we are very happy to know that you guys have a big IT dept.now if you could go and contribute more to that dept so that will help bangladeshi citizens instead of saying it to pakistanis.lets leave a positive mark in this world.

Ibrahim May 08, 2017 11:33am

@NORISK Nailed it..

Ahmed Abdul Ghani May 08, 2017 11:38am

@S Malik https://www.dawn.com/news/1283712/punjab-collaborates-with-sindh-on-police-computerisation

Raza May 08, 2017 11:49am

PIA helped train Emirates pilots back in the day (when it launched). Even the first Emirates flight was flown by a PIA pilot from Dubai to Karachi. This is the same sort of export we should focus on. More power to Umer Saif.

TRUTH May 08, 2017 12:03pm

@Fast R u joking? Please visit police stations in south Punjab - miserable condition.

Muhammad Waqas May 08, 2017 12:13pm

not true, have you seen systems in Dubai, UAE police? they are far ahead in technology. they don't need any help from Punjab Police.

Nida May 08, 2017 12:23pm

Really..? Punjab police is able to digitalis the police system then why not nawaz shrif digitalis the police system of whole country?

Nida May 08, 2017 12:25pm

@Waasay Uddin..exactly what i m thinking!

GIRISH TARWANI May 08, 2017 01:00pm

@Akram Good that Pakistan becomes known for its prowess in IT also. In fact, to make progress in any technical field, you need an internal climate which is conducive to research and development. Only Pakistanis can say if they have this climate or not.

Not_SUrprised May 08, 2017 01:28pm

Digitization is a very open ended term - what actually are they doing? Dawn should be more specific while reporting facts like these. Nowadays if one is just creating html forms to allow data entry they start calling it digitization.

vikas May 08, 2017 01:35pm

@Waasay Uddin I agree. For some time the government is giving out news that needs to be authenticated before printing. Yesterdays news' "Pakistan's economy is stable" a day before that "Pakistan has an advanced space programme"? Today this article. Authentication is definitely a requirement.

yousaf jamal akhtar May 08, 2017 01:45pm

next thing you know instead of modernising the dubai police they have corrupted it, and starts taking bribes and letting off criminilas.

Dunch May 08, 2017 01:54pm

PITB has handed over the project into very capable hands of AXACT. Only AXACT has the expertise, technology and QUALIFIED software engineers to complete the project within a very short period of time for a payment and also will hand over a certificate of authenticity.....

sPREAD love May 08, 2017 01:57pm

Do for others but don't do for your own self.

naseem ahmad May 08, 2017 02:06pm

@Chandra Go and get some geography lessons, the news is about UAE, not Saudi Arabia.

naseem ahmad May 08, 2017 02:11pm

@Justice there are two different things, they may have digitised police department in Punjab, but are not using it for their own political end. Secondly this is no charity, the government will be paid for providing the service.

Parvez May 08, 2017 02:25pm

We teach others ..... but fail to learn ourselves.

zulu May 08, 2017 02:25pm

better help Punjab police stations and police

Khalifa May 08, 2017 02:34pm

@Waasay Uddin Your comment makes a lot of sense. But did I hear correctly that we have national elections the next year, where such achievements will sell well for voters?

Pakistan May 08, 2017 02:37pm

All those advising PITB to digitize Punjab Police Stations first should visit Punjab Police stations and see themselves that they are already digitized. Please appreciate where deu

Sixer From Chakwal May 08, 2017 02:50pm

@Raju Sorry to inform you that this is the work of Musharraf who brought a kind of revolution in IT and in PITB as well

Hassan May 08, 2017 03:05pm

Excellent job. Pakistan has got the best of talents.

abdullah May 08, 2017 03:13pm

..as a UAE resident for over a decade I can safely say going by the track record Pakistanis have in the UAE that PITB top hierarchy have had a meeting with some junior level police officers merely as a PR exercise - these Emirates probably have no idea what the agenda or topic was but as an easily pleased nation we think we have secured a big deal!

Dubai is very much Euro/USA followed by Indian centric, sadly Pakistan doesn't get a mention in their agenda due to incompetency of Pak high commission staff in UAE/foreign policy!

Dr. Salaria, Aamir Ahmad May 08, 2017 04:29pm

Can they do it? Let's wait and see.

sajjad kamran May 08, 2017 05:21pm

Dubai asking Punjab to digitalise its police stations.

This is laughable.

Masood Hussain May 08, 2017 05:38pm

What about punjab police???????

Nasir May 08, 2017 05:48pm

@MSAlvi What do you mean. What prompted your above post.

khan May 08, 2017 08:26pm

Very funny... How about doing it for your own country's police stations first!

jamal May 09, 2017 03:12am

and Punjab IT board has successfully done this for Punjab Police. No criminal can now escape in Punjab, terrorists are nabbed before they even think of committing a heinous act. Well done!

Adi May 09, 2017 05:31am

@Nouman when did you visited any police station?

NaradA Muni May 09, 2017 10:29am

@Jon mAshup ; Great job Punjab IT board..

What great job?, nothing has been done yet. Only some talking happened and people are already celebrating..

ERNST HAMINGWAY May 09, 2017 11:29am

@Zahid Khan : I can bet people like you will never be happy in life. Always criticize becuz you have learn't to say few ugly words

Ijlal May 09, 2017 12:24pm

Well done Pakistan and well done faisal

sherryaar May 09, 2017 04:27pm

y not start the same in all over pakistan? shame on punjab govt !!

Einstein babar May 09, 2017 04:57pm

I live in Dubai and I know very well that Pakistani IT people are extremely sharp and talented,

El Chapo May 09, 2017 11:15pm

The day when Pak police can instantly pull the warrant / vehicle record from their mobile device then I will believe they are digitized.

shahzad anwar May 10, 2017 09:59am

Its not surprising. Pakistan has helped Sudan and few other countries with Machine Readable Passport (MRP) projects successfully in the past. Our former NADRA Chief Technology Officer (CTO) (now chairman NADRA Usman Mobin) is an MIT computer science graduate oversaw those projects.
