Junior girls squash in quarters stage

PESHAWAR: Noor-ul-Ain, Nimra Aqeel and Laiba Ijaz took berths in the quarter-finals after recording first-round victories against their respective rivals on the opening day of the Nazim Peshawar National Junior Girls Squash Championship here at PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex on Tuesday.

A total of 32 players, 16 each in the U15 and U-19 age group categories, are taking part in the event.

In the first match, second seed Nimra Aqeel recorded victory against Maira Khan in a thrilling four-set battle with the score being 7-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-8.

In the second match, third-seeded Laiba beat Eman Ali with the latter offering resistance to Laiba who played well hardly giving much time to Eman to settle down.

Laiba won the first set 11-9 and did the same in the second and third sets winning them 11-6, 11-9.

On the other hand, top seed Noor-ul-Ain of SNGPL beat Eman Jabil 11-6, 11-8,11-9 with Zohra defeating Asama Pari 11-8, 11-7, 11-6, Hira Aqeel thrashing Kalsoom 11-8, 11-7, 11-9 and Niama Khalid taming Sana 12-10, 11-9 12-10.

In another U-19 category match, second seed Noor-ul-Huda of SNGPL defeated Fata’s Bushra Afridi in straight sets 11-8, 11-8, 11-9.
