ABBOTTABAD: Family of Ambreen, 17, who was burnt alive by some accused in a van on May 2, 2016, still awaits justice.

Police had arrested some 15 people in the murder case, but have not yet completed the investigation.

According to human rights activist, Ejaz Jadoon Madani, delay in the trial of the accused is on the part of police, which, he alleged, were deliberately slowing the investigations. Even the statutory time for filing of the challan against the accused in the court has lapsed, he added.

Lawyer Shabnam Nawaz alleged that the accused were influential people and were influencing the police investigations.

It may be mentioned that soon after the incident, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Asad Qaisar had visited the girl’s house in Makol village near Donga Gali and vowed to plead Ambreen’s case in the court himself and also promised to establish a school in her name. However, the promises remain to be fulfilled.
