LAHORE: The firefighters stayed on their toes the whole day on Saturday as the city saw nine fire incidents. Properties and valuables worth millions of rupees were destroyed but luckily no casualties or injuries were reported.

Eight fire incidents were reported from the houses in different areas of the city, including Gujjarpura, Sanda, Sabzazar, Ichhra, Shalimar, Gulberg and Baghbanpura.

Another incident was reported when a fire erupted in a warehouse in Moti Bazaar near Masti Gate.

The Rescue 1122 firefighters reported that the fire incidents were caused by short circuits, kitchen appliances and power generator explosions.

Jam Sajjad, the spokesman for the service, said the fire incidents alarmingly increased in the city during the summer.

“More than 150 to 170 fire incidents were reported on a daily basis from the cities and towns of Punjab and these figures don’t include minor incidents,” he said.
