KARACHI: The driver of a police officer was killed and a police constable was wounded in an encounter on the outskirts of the metropolis in the early hours of Saturday.

A team of the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) came under attack during a raid on a hideout of Hanif alias Bacha, Abdul Ghaffar and Islam, who were allegedly involved in robberies and kidnapping for ransom incidents, in Khyber City near Umer Marvi Goth at around 3.30am, according to Shah Latif Town SHO Amanullah Marwat.

The SHO said the police team led by AVCC SHO Fida Husain Leghari conducted the targeted raid on the hideout but the suspects residing on the second floor of the building opened fire on them. In an ensuing exchange of fire, he added, Farhat, who was a private driver of the AVCC SHO was killed and the AVCC constable, Baqir Husain, sustained bullet injuries. The suspects, however, managed to escape from the crime scene, taking advantage of darkness, he added.
