Police in Kasur district on Thursday lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against a landlord for allegedly raping a married woman in a local village.

The accused had scaled the wall of the victim's house on Wednesday, when the family was out harvesting, and raped 22-year-old S*, according to complainant Mohammad Younas.

The accused escaped after the assault.

Younas, who is the father of the victim, told Dawn that the accused was a landlord in the village and influential.

He said police were reluctant to arrest the accused and his fellow villagers were forcing him to reach a compromise and settle for Rs100,000.

The victim has so far refused to undergo a medical examination before the court of civil judge Mehwish Kaliar, according to Mohammad Arshad, a police official from the local police station.

The police official said the victim’s refusal to conduct a medical examination 'raises doubts' over her claims.

DPO Kasur Ali Nasir Rizvi has constituted a team headed by DSP Sadar Mirza Arif Rasheed to arrest the accused.
