KARACHI: Maria Maratab of Army hogged second day’s limelight in the 48th National Athletics Championship by snatching two golds from Wapda at the tartan track of the PSB Coaching Centre here on Saturday.

In the morning, she leaped to 11.96 metres to clinch triple jump gold as Wapda’a pair of Maryam Babar and Alia Noor settled with silver and the bronze medals respectively.

In the afternoon, she completed her double by winning the 100 metres hurdles clocking 15.39 seconds. Wapda’s pair of Ghazala Ramzan and Musarrat Shaheen had to be content with the other two places.

Another Army athlete Mehboob Ali avenged his opening day’s defeat that he had suffered at the hands of his brother Nokar Hussain, winning the 400 metres hurdles gold. He clocked 51.20 seconds. Adeel of Wapda was placed third.

It may be mentioned that Nokar had pocketed the 400 metres sprint gold by getting the better of his sibling the other day.

It is pertinent to mention that she had annexed the 800 metres gold the other day.

Airman Mohsin Ali became the first athlete outside Army and Wapda to clinch a gold when he sprinted to victory in the 110 metres hurdles in 14.73 seconds as Mohammad Nawaz of Wapda and Saddam Hussain of Army occupied the following two positions.

Holders Army, as expected leads the medals table in men’s with a tally of 8-10-4 medals. They are followed by Wapda with 6-3-10.
