ISLAMABAD: A former adviser to the Sindh chief minister was abducted from his home on Wednesday, the police said.

Nawab Ali Laghari was picked up by a group of people during the early hours of Wednesday. The police have registered a kidnapping case against unidentified persons after a complaint was lodged by the victim’s brother, Ramzan Laghari.

Talking to Dawn, Ramzan Laghari said a group of men had come to the victim’s house in Soan Garden and introduced themselves as officials of various law enforcement agencies. He said some were wearing Punjab police uniforms as well.

He said the men asked his brother to show them his identification documents, including his CNIC.

Mr Laghari said his brother was forced into one of the cars when he came out with his papers. He said the men had come in four cars including two black Vigo trucks and two white Prado Land Cruisers all of which had green licence plates.

He said the family does not have any enmity, that his brother had not received any threats and that the family does not have any idea of who the kidnappers might be.

“He was living a normal, peaceful life here. He dropped and picked his children from school himself,” Mr Laghari said.

The Lohi Baher police said an investigation into the case was started and that the Safe City wing had been asked for assistance in tracking down the victim.

The police will also use CCTV footage to identify and locate the vehicles.

“We do not know what the motive behind the kidnapping may be,” a police official said.
