Action against fake number plates

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Nisar Ali Khan on Saturday ordered action against vehicles plying without registration number plates, officials told Dawn on Saturday.

Initially, the traffic police will carry out a campaign for two weeks aimed at educating people about the importance of number plates. After the deadline strict action would be initiated against the vehicles using ‘Applied For’ or fake number plates, which includes heavy fine and impounding of vehicle.

Using vehicles without proper registration number was a threat to security and peace.

The minister issued the directives after spotting vehicles plying without proper registration number plates.

The minister took serious notice, saying the practice will jeopardise all efforts of the law enforcement agencies and security forces to provide protection to citizens.

It would also make the safe city project useless, a police official quoted the minister as saying.

The minister said it would be difficult to trace a vehicle used in a criminal activity, even after being spotted on CCTVs.

Fake number plates !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Number plates with alphabets and words in all sizes (some so small, the cop cannot even read from his place of duty, I bet) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Number plates in all shapes and sizes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Number plates with the owner's profession written there (Senator, Advocate, Doctor, Press etc.) Number plates in various illegal colours (Red etc.) and languages (Al-Bakistan in Arabic etc.) Number plates in green meaning these are government vehicles while in reality these are not. Number plates with owner's caste and tribe written on them ( Jutt, Cheema, Arain, Afridi etc) What is this all ? The Interior Ministry is requested to look into all such number plates and take action. Please remember this happens only in Pakistan.

All vehicles with fake number plates be impounded and auctioned. Also those who make fake number plates should be jailed.

What about government vehicles such as MPA's MNA's and other government vehicles. WILL THEY BE CHECKED SIRJI.

Legislation should be passed making it a crime punishable by fine plus imprisonment and impounding vehicle if the registration is not legal and up to-date PLUS at least third party insurance. Implement throughout Pakistan and enforce without ANY exception.

This is a way of collecting more money,would the minister care to tell us how hard it will be for someone to make a genuine looking fake plate.

Apart from fake number plates, vehicles moving with dark tinted glasses and curtains should be impounded straight away, irrespective of the status of the owners/occupants.
