KARACHI: Income Tax engineered a made a remarkable comeback to reach 318-5 against the Higher Education Commission (HEC) on the second day of the Patron’s Trophy Grade-II tournament fixture at the Rana Naved-ul-Hasan Cricket Academy in Sheikhupura on Monday.

Replying to HEC’s mammoth first-innings tally of 403, Income Tax were soon tottering at 36-5 after having resumed play at 5-1 against pace-spin combination of Mohammad Khurram and Ali Tipu.

But skipper Shoaib Akram led from the front to score 162 and together with Moazzam Hayat put on 282 in 262 minutes for the unbroken sixth-wicket partnership when the stipulated number of overs finished.

Shoaib’s 190-ball knock included 19 fours and four sixes, while Moazzam hit 105 off 146 balls with the aid of nine fours and one six.

The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) were heading for defeat against Brighto Paints after being forced to follow on at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot.

Responding to Brighto Paints’ 394, Nadra folded up for 183 before reaching 83-4 in the second innings.

Pakistan Customs earned a first-innings lead of 26 runs against Imex by collecting 353 at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi. Opener Kashif Iqbal (127 off 165 balls, 16 boundaries) and Hafiz Asad Baig (85) added 183 for the second wicket.

Port Qasim Authority (PQA)’s hopes of a certain win after enforcing the follow on upon Humak Engineering were held up by a magnificent comeback from the underdogs at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.

After mustering 101 in reply to PQA’s 329, Humak Engineering rode on an unfinished partnership of 241 between opener Mohammad Jawwad (156 off 229 balls, 20 fours and one six) and Usman Ashraf (87) to post 300-2 in their second innings by stumps.

Paceman Hasnain Shah returned superb analysis of 8-62 in 21.4 overs as Railways dismiss Omar Associates for 257 to earn a 25-run lead at the Railways Stadium in Lahore.

Favourites K-Electric built a commanding lead of 202 by declaring their first innings at 366-6 against Ghani Glass at the LCCA Ground in Lahore. Despite opener Rizwan Hussain scoring 89, the debutants struggled to 135-4 in their second innings.

KPT were 54-2 after securing a lead of 124 on the first innings against Candyland at the SBP Sports Complex.

Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) were in top after taking a 122-run lead over Pak Saudi at the NBP Sports Complex. By close of play, Pak Saudi were just six runs in front with half their side back in the pavilion.

Fit-again Pakistan left-hander Haris Sohail scored an undefeated 119 (143 balls, 11 fours and two sixes) as ZTBL amassed 340-5 versus Pakistan Oxygen Limited (POL) at the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad.

Earlier, POL failed by just eight runs to overhaul ZTBL’s firs-innings total of 194.
