KARACHI: Pakistan Rangers Sindh on Monday claimed to have detained 10 suspects, including a militant linked with the banned Jamaatul Ahrar (JuA), from different areas of the metropolis.

The paramilitary force conducted targeted raids in Sohrab Goth and SITE areas and detained two suspects, identified as Mohammed Usman belonging to JA and Mehboob Ali linked with banned Sipah-i-Mohammad Pakistan, said the spokesperson.

The official claimed that the JA militant was involved in targeted killings of the police and planning terrorist acts against Muharram processions.

The official said Mehboob Ali was wanted by the Counter-Terrorism Department in different criminal cases. He was allegedly involved in an armed attack on a Rangers’ mobile in Sohrab Goth in 2013.

“He was also involved in a firing incident against Pakhtuns in 2012,” according to the Rangers’ official statement.

Separately, the paramilitary force apprehended one suspect, Naushad, from Lyari who was reportedly involved in extortion, targeted killings and also worked as a facilitator for elements involved in gang warfare.

Furthermore, the Rangers also conducted a raid in Machhar Colony and detained four drug peddlers, including one police constable (Danish) who was involved in the drug business, said the spokesperson.

Other apprehended drug peddlers were identified as Subhan, Azhar Ali and Ubaid. A huge quantity of drugs was seized from their custody.

The Rangers also detained three ‘street criminals’ from the Nazimabad and New Karachi areas who were involved in theft, robberies and other street crimes. They were identified as Mohammed Ali, Zeeshan and Mohammed Amir. Six held suspects were handed over to the police for further legal action while custody of four other suspects was given to the Anti-Narcotics Force.
