KARACHI, Dec 30: The administration of the North Nazimabad Town has banned burial at the Sakhi Hassan graveyard as it has become saturated and no further land is available.

However, those who have already got the land reserved for dead bodies in the graveyard in the past would be entitled to avail of the facility, provided they get their documents renewed by the town administration within seven days.

About 35-40 grave sites located in the boundary are under occupation of individuals.

The town nazim, Fasihuddin Siddiqui, told Dawn that the agreement with the contractor had been terminated, while a nominal number of staff from town was being posted for supervision and maintenance at the graveyard.

The decision to stop further burials at the graveyard from Jan 1 has been taken in the light of the fact that no more land was available and some of the grave-diggers, without having any approval of the respective union council, had started dismantling old graves to prepare the new ones.

The practice on the part of grave-diggers caused concern among the people and visitors to the graveyard, said the official.

The North Nazimababd Town notification said that no burial certificate would be issued if the dead were still buried in violation of the restriction.

All record pertaining to the graveyard has been given in the custody by UC-8 administration and placed at North Nazimabad Town office.
