A woman who crossed the Working Boundary on Thursday night was shot dead by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel near Sialkot, police sources said.
Rasheeda Bibi, 53, hailing from Sialkot district's Diawara village, crossed the border after losing her way.
According to police sources, the woman was mentally ill.
A protest erupted in Bibi's native village after it emerged that she had been shot dead by BSF personnel.
Indian border authorities later handed over her body to her family in the presence of Pakistan Rangers officials.
Similar incidents have occurred in the past as well in light of heightened border tensions between India and Pakistan.
Last year in August, a Pakistani boy was shot dead after entering Indian territory by mistake. Seventeen-year-old Ijaz, from Kasur sector, was grazing cattle near the border when the incident had taken place.

It is always better to publish other side of story too. As per BSF statement "They challenged person and didn't get any answer. Due to darkness they couldn't recognize if person is he or she. They had to fire shots to stop intrusion"

The border security can not be expected to read the biography of the person prior to enforcing orders on the border . Just a day back 4 security person were ambushed and killed on patrol . I fully suspect the mentally ill woman could have been used as a decoy to test an area of the border and we have seen terrorists hide behind women and children . Sad but true .

A person crossing the border in dark not stopping after warning.. this is a hostile border at night, not some traffic light in daytime to cross at will.. specially if not stopped by Pak rangers, the intruder may be technically equipped to conceal presence.. there were not many options.. an enquiry should be initiated on both sides of border..

@Taimoor khan if you visualise the actual boarders and not seen on movie, 70% movment are presumed die to poor visibllity or lack of communication from both side hence judgement/decision has to taken by the sentry at poat at that time. Of terrorist crosses then he gets punishment. Pak soldier must be on duty and guarding opposite post. He should have warned opposite post soldiers about the cross over/ or prevented the incident.
