LONDON: The British authorities have arrested a third suspect as part of an investigation into a possible cricket spot-fixing scandal involving the Pakistan Super League.

The man, who is in his 30s, was arrested in the northern English city of Sheffield and is now on bail pending further inquiries.

“Officers from the National Crime Agency (NCA) arrested a British man in his thirties this morning in the Sheffield area as part of its investigation into the spot-fixing of cricket matches,” the NCA said in a statement on its website.

Earlier this month, two other men were arrested as part of the same investigation. One of them was opening batsman Nasir Jamshed who played in 48 one-day internationals and two Tests. The third man arrested is reported to also be from Sheffield.

Jamshed, 27, is among three players who were recently suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board. The other two suspended were Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif.

The NCA has said its investigation is being done in conjunction with the Pakistan Cricket Board and International Cricket Council.

The PCB previously said it was investigating “an international syndicate which is believed to be attempting to corrupt the PSL”.
