SAHIWAL: Police with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and Rangers carried out a joint search operation in villages 98/9-L, 99/9-L, 100/9-L, 101/9-L and 112/9-L on Wednesday.

Teams took into custody eight people, of them two were released.

Those taken into custody are: Muhammad Waseem, Muhammad Ali, Saeed Ahmed, Shahzad, Muhammad Saleem, Khizer, Gulam Sakhi and Azizullah. Sakhi and Azizullah, of Balochistan, were handed over to the CTD.

Teams seized 221 bottles of liquor, one 30 bore pistol and bullets from the people.

Four were booked for keeping liquor and illicit arms.

MAYOR: Sahiwal Mayor Asad Baloch visited six water filtration plants in the city on Wednesday and found that five plants had not got new filters for the last eight months.

He told Dawn the government had allocated Rs8 million to improve the city cleanliness. He had recommended Rs4 million to Rs4.5 million to each chairman and vice-chairman.
