BUNER: Two brothers were killed and their sister suffered injuries in a grenade explosion in Kotkay area here on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Gulzada and Sultnzeb. The injured girl was named Bakhti Iram.

The incident occurred when the children picked up a hand grenade in the fields in the suburbs of Khaista Baba area, mistaking it as a toy, police said, adding the injured girl was shifted to DHQ hospital Daggar where her condition was stated to be out of danger.

The bodies were handed over to family after postmortem examination in the hospital.

SHO Gagra police station Mohammad Ali said the incident took place in the fields where the victims were grazing their cattle.

The injured girl said that here brothers mistook the grenade with a toy, adding the device exploded in the hands of her brothers killing both of them on the spot while she received injuries because she was standing at a distance from where the blast occurred.

The bodies were laid to rest amid moving scenes after funeral prayers at their native graveyard.
