GUJRANWALA, Dec 22: Three elderly people reportedly died from cold here on Monday.

Muhammad Tufail of Wahdat Colony, Abdul Rashed of Qila Dedar Singh and Muhammad Sharif in Satellite Town were brought to the local DHQ hospital after being frozen to the bone but they could not survive.

Meanwhile, two youths were crushed to death by a speeding truck on GT Road on Monday.

Muhammad Saqib and Muhammad Shahbaz, riding on a motorcycle, were on their way to Gulshan Iqbal Park. As they took the GT Road, a speeding truck (SGG-3199) crushed them under its wheels. The deceased belonged to Dhulley. CNICs: The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has failed to provide computerized identity cards to seekers within the prescribed period while people visiting swift centres to receive their cards are also misbehaved.

Some visitors told Dawn here on Monday that swift centres had charged Rs180 for issuing urgent computerized cards within a fortnight, but they did not deliver the same even after the passage of one month.

They said that some people had to come from far-flung areas in the extreme weather, but sometime they were not allowed to enter the office.

They demanded that inefficient Nadra staff should be transferred while their computerized cards delivered within due date.
