LAHORE: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Healthcare Commission (KPHC) will follow working of the Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC), especially the concept of Minimum Service Delivery Standards, and replicate clinical governance in the province.

“The model developed by the PHC has been immensely helpful in regulating the public and private healthcare establishments by promoting a culture of clinical governance which will be replicated in the KP,” said KPHC Chief Operating Officer Aazar Sardar on Tuesday.

Mr Sardar is on a visit to Punjab heading a four-member delegation comprising Director (Licensing) Dr Khalid, Additional Director (Monitoring and Evaluation) Abdul Nasir and IT consultant Sohaib Khan.

The delegation was given a detailed briefing about PHC objectives, core functions, its working, challenges of the health sector and functions.

The delegation was informed that the Minimum Service Delivery Standards had been outlined for the clinics and laboratories which would be implemented after final approval.

The PHC has already registered over 32,000 healthcare establishments, while about 18,000 applications have been received for the issuance of licences.

Welcoming the delegation, PHC Chief Operating Officer Dr Ajmal Khan offered every possible help to the KPHC. He said that in order to eliminate quackery in all its manifestations, the PHC closed down businesses of over 3,000 quacks and imposed a fine of over Rs27 million during the last 15 months on them.
