MURREE: The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) has suspended power supply to the Town Municipal Administration (TMA) for not paying electricity bills worth Rs146 million.

Because electric water pumps are used to supply water, Murree and the adjoining areas are undergoing a water shortage due to the suspension of power supply to the TMA, with residents having to bring water from far off water springs.

A water shortage was already being experienced in these areas due to the long dry spell, which has decreased the underground water level.

The TMA has been faced with severe financial crisis as its major source of income came from charging fees from drawing building plans but all kinds of construction has been banned in Murree for eight years.
