GWADAR: At least eight workers of the National Party (NP) were injured on Tuesday in a hand-grenade attack in Turbat town.

Police said some men hurled a grenade at the NP office in Turbat town during a party meeting. The grenade exploded in the office, leaving eight party workers injured, two of them seriously.

“Eight workers of the National Party were wounded in the grenade attack,” Commissioner of the Makran Division Bashir Ahmed Bangulzai told Dawn, adding that the injured were immediately shifted to the district hospital. Two workers who received serious injuries were shifted to Karachi for treatment.

“A local grenade was used in the attack,” a senior police officer said, adding that the attackers escaped from the scene on a motorcycle after hurling the grenade.

Further investigation was under way.

The party chief, Senator Hasil Khan Bizenjo, condemned the attack, asserting that workers of his party were not afraid of such attacks and the NP would continue to work for democratic rule in the country and fight for the rights of the people of Balochistan.

Elements rejected by the people were involved in the grenade attack, he added.
