A man strangled his five children to death before committing suicide in Punjab's Chiniot district on Tuesday, police said.
Hussain, a resident of Chiniot's Lalian Tehsil, strangled his five children, including one daughter and four sons, before committing suicide, said District Police Officer (DPO) Chiniot Mustansar Feroz.
Amongst the children killed were his 10-year-old daughter Iqra and sons, Waqas, Shehzad, Subhan and Nouman, aged eight, six, five and and three respectively.
According to area residents, Hussain, 35, had been estranged from his wife, Sajida Begum, who had left for her parents house a few months ago.
When Sajida refused to return despite his attempts to convince her, Hussain took the extreme step of killing his children and hanging himself, police said.

This guy could have been mentally ill. Mental illness should be addressed as it destroys homes and families.Wide spread depression and mental ailments are a really concerning issue of our society.

Very well said. Societal education on social and family aspects is totally missing. Never ever seen media or community leaders working to reform this behavior in the society. Neighbors and community members could have interfered and saved this tragedy. But all have different priorities. Human values and care for each other in Pakistani society is dipped down to lowest level. People will forget this tragedy with in couple of days. Extremely sad state. What the lady will do now having last all his children.

@Javed Akhter This has to do with psychological disorder and / or economic desperation. Millions of people in the non-islamic world do not commit such barbarism. Many of them are atheists, yet better human beings. That is what is important.
