RAWALPINDI: A suspected thief was beaten to death by villagers when he was caught stealing cattle along with his accomplices in an Attock village on Monday. Two villagers were also injured when they tried to stop them.

The incident happened when a group of thieves entered the house of Mohammad Sheraz and attempted to take away some cattle, but the inmates of the house challenged them. The thieves opened fire on Adil Shahzad and stabbed Umar, injuring both of them.

On hearing the sound of gunshots and screams of the victims, some villagers came out of their houses and overpowered one of the thieves and beat him to death. His accomplices managed to disappear in the dark.

Police recovered his body from a green area on Monday.

Inspector Raja Mushtaq, who was investigating the case, said that the body of the thief was identified as that of Nazeer Moosa by Mohammad Sheraz, the owner of the house.

Police said the injured were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Rawalpindi while another one was being treated at the DHQ hospital Attock.

Separately, a young man was gunned down by two men who came on a motorcycle at Adiala Road on Monday, police said.

Irfanullah, 35, a resident of Liaquat Colony Adiala road was coming out of mosque after offering prayers when two motorcycle riders opened fire on him.
