PESHAWAR: The 30th edition of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) National Junior Squash Champ­ionship, carrying a prize money of Rs500,000, will commence Thursday (today).

PAF Sports Control Committee director Group Captain Asghar Awan told journalists here on Wednesday that all arrangement had already been completed for smooth conduct of the prestigious event.

Flanked by former world champion Qamar Zaman, Asghar said the qualifying rounds will be organised on Thursday and Friday in five different age categories of under-11, U-13, U-15, U-17 and U-19. M. Ammad, Asadullah, Uzair Shoukat, Zeeshan Gul and Mansoor Zaman are the top seeds of these categories.

“There will be a draw of 32 for each category,” he added.

“It is a national ranking event that will assure participation of players from across the country. More than 180 players have already confirmed their entries. We will try to provide the best available facilities to each player,” Asghar further said.

He said the main draw of the five categories will be of 12 top ranking players, with four qualifiers joining them after the qualifying rounds.

Qamar said PAF squash academy was working at full capacity and hopefully good things would come up to revive old glory.
