LAHORE: The 150th anniversary celebrations of the Lahore High Court will commence on Nov 1 and continue till Dec 10.

The celebrations will start with a flag-hoisting ceremony at the principal seat of the high court and conclude with a conference, decided a full court meeting of the LHC on Saturday.

Presided over by Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah and attended by all the 47 judges of the LHC, the meeting decided to invite the Punjab government and the civil society for participation in the celebrations.

Students, artists and writers from all over the province would be invited to participate in the art and literature competitions and exhibitions that would be part of the celebrations, it decided.

There will also be competitions of photography themed on implementation of law, old pictures of the LHC building, besides essay writing contests.

The chief justice said symposia would be arranged at the LHC benches at Bahawalpur, Rawalpindi, and Multan, respectively, on Nov 5, 12 and 19. Symposia on implementation of law would also be arranged in nine cities on Nov 5, 12, 19 and 26.

He said the purpose of holding sesquicentennial celebrations was to reach out to the common man being the ultimate beneficiary of the system of administration of justice and to demonstrate that a competent and functional judiciary was there to dispense justice to the masses.

The bar associations of Punjab would also participate in the celebrations, said the CJ who later constituted 17 committees, comprising judges of the LHC, in connection with the celebrations.
