SIALKOT: Azadi Train was accorded a warm welcome when it arrived at the local railway station on Saturday.

A large number of people from various walks of life, senior officials of Pakistan Railways (PR), exporters and students from different private and government institutions were present there.

As the train arrived, people, especially students, started chanting slogans to welcome it.

Azadi Train has been prepared by PR, in collaboration with the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage.

The visitors took a keen interest in the cultural floats and historical galleries of the train.

Zeeshan, a Class X student who was there, said he especially liked the artistically decorated cultural floats displaying traditions and heritage of different provinces of the country.

The train stayed at the local station for two hours (from 10am to 12noon) and will reach Lahore on Sunday (today) after touching Chawinda, Pasrur and Qila Sobha Singh railway stations.

It would stay at Narowal railway station on Saturday night, a PR official added.
