KARACHI: Anomalies in promotions

Published December 6, 2003

KARACHI, Dec 5: City Nazim Naimatullah has taken serious notice of irregularities in promotion and other organizational matters of the city government.

The Nazim directed DCO Karachi Mir Hussain Ali through a letter written a few days back to review all the promotions made during the last two years within forty five days and submit a comprehensive report in that regard.

According to the sources, a number of complaints were received about the irregularities in different organizational matters.

Welcoming the decision of the Nazim, employees of the city government demanded that quick action be take those unduly promoted be barred from performing duties.

An employee of the city government said irregularities in promotion cases had become a routine matter as those with close links to the people at the helm of affairs could easily get the posting of their choice.

Another employee pointed out that another factor responsible for the mess things were in was the difference in standards in organizational affairs for employees of the defunct KDA and the defunct KMC.

“Employees of both the defunct entities have serious reservations about each other due to these irregularities,” one employee of the KDA said and added that the most affected party were the employees of the KDA. He referred to cases where low-grade officials were preferred over high-grade officials.—PPI
