KARACHI: In a repeat performance, top quartet of the last national championship including holders Wapda, runners-up Higher Education Commission (HEC) and losing semi-finalists Punjab and Sindh cruised into the last four of the National Women’s Volleyball Championship at the KPT Sports Complex on Friday.

Defending champions Wapda put up a formidable show to stay unbeaten and topped pool A with hosts Sindh occupying the second slot.

Similarly, the HEC emerged group B champions with unbeaten record and were followed by Punjab.

According to draws, Wapda takes on Punjab while HEC is slated to meet Sindh in the two semi-finals on Saturday.

Wapda, who thrashed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa straight in their opening pool match the other day, maintained their unbeaten run by getting the better of Sindh 25-5, 25-9. They rounded off their league engagements by sending Azad Jammu and Kashmir packing 25-8, 25-7.

With a win over Balochistan under their belt, HEC also continued their winning spree routing Army 25-18, 26-24 and Punjab 25-13, 25-15 in back-to-back fixtures.

Sindh also remained in contention by cruising to 25-12, 25-11 victory over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Farah Khan, Farah Naz and Lubna excelled for the local outfit.

In the match of academic interest, Army, conjured up their first win over Balochistan. They were home 25-13, 25-11.

It is pertinent to mention that Army is competing in the event for the first time.
