ISLAMABAD: A police official was dismissed for taking a bribe, police said on Tuesday.

The official’s termination order was issued from the office of SSP Sajid Kiani after he was found guilty.

Constable Safdar, who was stationed at Sabzi Mandi police station, was accused of taking bribe from a truck driver. An inquiry into the matter determined that he was guilty of doing so, which led to his arrest and the registration of a case.

They said reports surfaced earlier that public service vehicles were intercepted at a picket near a wheat godown on the pretext of security, and the police officials deployed there demanded money from the drivers. In response to the complaint, the Sabzi Mandi SHO collected evidence to apprehend those responsible.

The civilians maintaining surveillance in the area spotted the constable taking bribe from a truck driver and recorded the incident. The evidence was then shared with the SI who ordered an inquiry that led to the constable’s dismissal.
