TIMERGARA: A girl was killed and her mother was injured when her uncle reportedly opened fire on them at Darra Suri Dabira here on Saturday.

Sources said a man shot dead his niece and critically injured her mother at home over some domestic problem. The victim’s mother was shifted to Timergara hospital. The accused managed to escape the scene. The Khall police registered a case against the accused and started investigations.

Also in the day, the Samar Bagh police recovered body of a young girl from the Gharanday Mora forest in Darangal area. Police were informed about the body by some local residents.

Dr Dilawar Khan at the Samar Bagh hospital, who conducted postmortem, said the body had been decomposed. He said the girl, aged 25 or so, had been killed some five months ago. The identity of the girl could not be ascertained as no one had registered a case of her missing so far.

The Samar Bagh municipal administration buried the body at a local graveyard. Police took samples of her hairs and bones for further investigation.

AWARENESS CAMPAIGN: The Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP), an NGO, on Saturday launched an awareness campaign against hepatitis and diarrhea to prepare people to cope with the diseases.

A function in this regard was held at Khazana which was attended by local residents, students and officials of health department. The SRSP district health officer Dr Sahib Zada, Ibrar Naeem and Malik Hamimullah spoke on the occasion.

They said taking precautionary measures and observing cleanliness at homes could prevent people from hepatitis and diarrhea. They said these infectious diseases proved threatening if not prevented.

Meanwhile, Laloo village council nazim Fazal Khaliq told journalists at Timergara that diarrhea had broken out in his village and several people including women and children had been suffering from it.
