KARACHI: The All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) has criticised the Ministry of Information for not “honouring commitments” made over the past three years.

Syed Muhammad Munir Jilani, the acting Secretary General of APNS, said on Wednesday that the society’s executive committee, at a meeting in Islamabad, noted that the federal government had taken no follow-up action on assurances made by it over payment of outstanding dues, increase in advertisement rates, allocation of print advertising budget, fixation of the quantum of advertising and implementation of the regional quota.

These issues were taken up at a meeting with Information Minister Pervez Rashid at a dinner hosted by his ministry, according to a press release.

The minister once again assured the APNS that measures would be taken soon to “honour the commitments”.

Among others who attended the reception were Irfan Siddiqi, Adviser to the Prime Minister, and Principal Information Officer Rao Tehsin Ali Khan.

The Executive Committee, through a resolution, praised Information Secretary Imran Gardezi for taking measures to solve problems being faced by the newspaper industry.
