ISLAMABAD: Saying that tax rebate is the only facilitation given to teachers in the country in recognition of their services, the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association Islamabad Chapter has demanded for the reinstatement of 75pc rebate in income tax in the budget for 2016-17, which was reduced by the federal government to 40pc a few years ago.

Through a press statement, the newly elected leadership of the federation’s Islamabad chapter, including its president Prof Dr Asif Ali, executive member Dr Shahzad Ashraf Chaudhry and general secretary Mohammad Jawad said that though teachers were even serving in BPS grade 22, they were not given any of the facilitations given to other public servants working in the same grades.

The leadership of the federation said they would have explained the reason for an increased rebate if they were consulted by the federal government two years ago when the tax rebate was reduced to 40pc.

The president of the federation Dr Asif Ali said that he had instructed all academic staff associations in public sector universities working under the Federal Charter to display banners at their campuses, demanding the restoration of a 75pc tax rebate.
