LANDI KOTAL: Tension further heightened between Pakistan and Afghanistan on Thursday and the two countries deployed tanks and armoured personnel carriers along the tense Torkham border besides sending more troops after their negotiating teams failed to resolve the border fencing dispute, political administration sources told Dawn.

The two countries have locked horns over the issue of fencing of some points at the border.

Pakistan has started fencing some vulnerable points of the border with Afghanistan to plug illegal and secret border crossings and movements of people.

The sources said that Pakistan sent army troops and additional Khasadar Force and Frontier Corps personnel on the border on Thursday in retaliation to Afghanistan’s reinforcement of its troops and border security forces along the border.

Afghanistan has objected to the border fencing and officially protested to Pakistan over the issue.

Because of the tense situation, the border remained closed for the third consecutive day.

Informed sources told Dawn that negotiating teams of the two countries briefly met at the Pakistan side of the border at around midday amid expectations that the issue would be resolved.

These expectations, however, proved short-lived as the meeting ended without reaching any agreement, much to the disappointment of scores of travellers and traders who have been stranded on both sides of the border for a couple of days.

The Pakistani team consisted of Sector Commander Brig Qayyum Paracha, Khyber Rifles Commandant Col Tariq Hafeez and Assistant Political Agent Rahimullah Mehsud while the Afghan team was represented by Border Police Commander Zabeehullah and Lt Col Nisar Ahmad.

Fence the border at all costs.

Shaukat Ali Khan May 13, 2016 07:29am

Fencing is must to keep terrorists away.

Yaqoot mir May 13, 2016 08:00am

Fence the border at all costs

RAK May 13, 2016 08:01am

They don't even recognize the Durand Line and yet expect us to fight their enemies?

Sunil May 13, 2016 08:07am

See now, even Afghanistan is having border dispute with Pakistan.

Peacock May 13, 2016 08:13am

Must be resolved amicably ASAP .The limbo at Pak Afghan border is against the history. The Torkham border must remain open,it has a historical significance, and must be preserved.Important supplies like life saving medicines, food grain, are transited, besides critically ill persons comes to Pakistan for treatment. All concerned on both sides of border must sit and solve the issue.

IOK May 13, 2016 08:21am

Fence illegal routes but widen legal routes....this must be our approach being their brethren. Enemy is using them against us is a well known fact and we have to defeat this devilish plot by our strength in intellect and power.

Xinyang Peng, Shenzen May 13, 2016 08:39am

Pakistan cannot fence the border till the two countries agree on the border. So far Afghanistan has not recognized the Pashtun areas of Pakistan.

waqas ahmed May 13, 2016 08:44am

Pakistan always welcomes afghan citizens but only who enters in Pakistan legally. From last one and half decade one million plus afghan refuges got shelter in Pakistan. So Installing a fence to stop the unwanted guests is not seems to be legitimate reason afghan officials are holding.

imran Khan May 13, 2016 08:50am

Yes good step taken and should have been taken decades ago..close the border same like we have with India

Shakil Ahmed May 13, 2016 09:03am

Pakistan has the right to secure its borders, why Afghans resisting this? this will discourage illegal moves to and from both sides!

Abbas Naqvi May 13, 2016 09:04am

Where will Afghan reconciliation efforts and peace talks with Taliban go now? Diffuse the border tension and resolve the issue through dialogue and diplomacy. We are already facing Panama issue at home and F-16s with the US.

Ali May 13, 2016 09:10am

Too late. The border should have been fenced when Afghanistan was in turmoil during the 1990s.

pakistan May 13, 2016 09:17am

whats wrong with fencing it afghans are always saying we send "TERRORISTS" there so after fencing which we are doing on our expenses it would be difficult for Pakistan to send "TERRORISTS" to the peaceful Afghanistan.........or perhaps its the other way around they are worried as now NDS cant fulfill its masters orders

Syed May 13, 2016 09:18am

This fencing of border should have done at-least 30 years ago.

Paggrri Sambhal May 13, 2016 09:21am

So now who will oppose that these Afghans are not ungrateful nation?

Pakistani May 13, 2016 09:36am

Interesting. Pakistan should fence the whole border. Let's see what Afghans do. :)

Mr. Honest May 13, 2016 09:45am

So Pakistan, a sovereign NUCLEAR state is not being allowed by non other than Afghanistan to fence its own side of the border for its own security??? Is this a joke?

Tally-ho May 13, 2016 09:58am

what exactly is Afghanistan objecting to? the fencing is on OUR side of the border, meant to curtail movement of militants. what seems to be the issue here?

usman May 13, 2016 10:04am

India is creating all sort of troubles to hurt CPEC but not going to succeed

Catalyst May 13, 2016 10:06am

Border management is the need of the hour. Afghan government should have welcomed the step as it will directly improve the security situation not only in Pakistan but Afghanistan as well. In fact, the Afghan govt's demands of putting checks on cross border infiltration can only be effectively met by fencing the vulnerable points. But I guess the Afghan govt has other priorities.

xmaestro May 13, 2016 10:22am

That's India, protesting. I see no reason for Afghanistan to worry, unless they actually want terrorists to move back and forth freely. As for the people who need to enter Pakistan for legal reason, please use legal ways to fly in.

GAK Wazir May 13, 2016 10:22am

Let the border be sealed to plug illegal crossings. What is wrong if Pakistan is doing so? Afghanistan should not play in other hands and improve its relations with Pakistan, and this is the only way for survival of the Kabul regime.

Amir Khan May 13, 2016 10:36am

India has sealed its border with Pakistan. Afghanistan despite its hostile stance towards Pakistan wants to keep it open. Must be for some wrong reasons.

Ali Kazmi May 13, 2016 10:42am

It is our border, we have every right to protect it and completely block their entry. Let them do whatever they want. We must put a fence over there, in fact, this should have been done a long time ago. We must stop the spilling over of the war into our territory from the Afghan side. Pakistan must protect its own interest.

We have been hosting the Afghans for many years, what has it given us? nothing! Its time for tough talk with Afghanistan. Let us see if any other country would like to take their refugees. Why must we bear the burden of a war that was a combined adventure of US, West and other countries. Let them do their bit as well. Let India open borders with them and accept all the refugees, after all, they are really eager to build all sorts of relationships with them, including creating mess for Pakistan.

Mullah Deewana May 13, 2016 10:48am

It's quite amusing that while Pakistan is hosting so many Afghan refugees but the Afghans in return are pointing their tanks at Pakistan.

Indian (Modi's) diplomacy at its best from where I can see it. First US and now Afghanistan.

A Khan May 13, 2016 10:54am

Why not say the reason of their protest? if its pakistan's land, then it has all the rights to fence it. But in the naming of fencing if they are taking Afghan land, then better resolve it diplomatically. Remember one thing, they have nothing to loose and they have heart of steel. Even with nothing, they can put up a good fight and most importantly, US govt is with the current govt there...

Akil Akhtar May 13, 2016 11:04am

Time to show the Afghans who is the Boss

rehan May 13, 2016 11:11am

What exactly is Afghanistan objecting to ? It doesn't say that anywhere in the report. I'm sure it's not that Afghanistan doesn't recognize Pakistan or anything, right?

Rajesh May 13, 2016 11:12am

Afghans are protesting because most of the tribal areas is their that's the reason of protest.

Sarwar, USA. May 13, 2016 11:19am

Well done Pakistan seal the border. Only movement through proper documents and passports. I should say one of the best thing KPK govt is trying to achieve. I think all vegetable trucks be diverted back to Pakistan markets ... people will love to buy all at a little lower price rather then rotting the fruits and veg. in the heat.

jazib May 13, 2016 11:22am

how ridiculous it is...same afghan govt keep saying terrorist from Pakistan came to Afghanistan now if Pakistan is fencing the border why they are crying ????

INDIA May 13, 2016 11:23am

Pakistan should talk with Afghanistan amicably and solve this fencing issue without using any force. Pakistan should understand that Afghanistan needs help of all neighbour nations to rebuild the nation again. India wants peace and flourishing prosperity in this part of the world.

Yaqoob Khan May 13, 2016 11:35am

@pakistan The other side of the coin and the truth is pakistan is not fencing the border but building a check post in the edge of the mountain which is at the 50 meters within the border and by law it a violation to build any check post near the border by Law. Pakistan has always fooled its people and has never said truth to them.

fida USA May 13, 2016 11:39am

Pakistan should close its border with Afghanistan, stop free flow of trade between two countries and send all the Afghan refugees to their home country. Since Pakistan inception, Afghanistan has been a pain in the neck for Pakistan, best for Pakistan is to have no relationship with Afghanistan.

fida USA May 13, 2016 11:42am

@INDIA If India truly believes in peace than let them show to the world and withdraw its forces from Kashmir and let them decide their future.

Zuhaib May 13, 2016 11:45am

Since from the beginning , Afghanistan is resisting Pakistan in every field, so it will be a milestone if the border is fenced and movement across the border is restricted. Then Afghan Govt will not be able to blame Pakistan for breeding / training of terrorist. Pakistan should do it forcefully.

AW May 13, 2016 11:50am

Pakistan has every right to secure its border by fencing and other means. It is strange that the government in Afghanistan is infringing on that right which has nothing to do with the Afghan government. Afghanistan is always complaining about infiltration from Pakistan so they should be happy that we are securing the border

Truth May 13, 2016 11:50am

Enough is enough. Torkham border must be treated like any international border. We should also send Afghan refugees back to Afghanistan at the earliest.

Skeptic May 13, 2016 12:04pm

Send all Afghans living in Pakistan illegally, across the border and seal it.

Sceptic May 13, 2016 12:06pm

A welcoming move that would prove beneficial innthe long run.Pakistanis needs to understand that there are no emotions involved in diplomacy.even if that is considered for a moment then afghanistan has been an opportunistic brother and stabbed paksitan in the back

Syed Usman Wazir May 13, 2016 12:09pm

@Yaqoob Khan, Where is the law that states a check post cannot be established within 50m of the border? there are numerous checkposts within 50m of pak india border.. The issue is that afghans at heart don't accept durand line as defacto border and will always play at hands of their indian friends.. This border management system is the need of hour and would help curtail illegal movement of smugglers and terrorists.. Kudos to Pak Army for taking a stand and they should close all illegal crossing points.. Afghans are more then welcome to visit Pakistan BUT only through checkpoints..

ali May 13, 2016 12:14pm

Fence all the border and keep these untrustworthy ungrateful and uncivilized afghans in their caves and alleys.

abdullah May 13, 2016 12:22pm

@INDIA .we have helped them fr the last 4 decades.why dont you try it and take refugees from us and than we can talk to afghanistan on this issue.

zorkor May 13, 2016 12:39pm

Pakistan should fence the border at all cost. Most of the kidnapped people from Pakistan end up in Afghanistan. Shows us who is doing these criminal activities inside Pakistan.

The current language used by Afghanistan is orchestrated by the Indians , who want to cause all sorts of trouble for Pakistan to stop the CPEC project.

Pakistan should not back down and seal the border.

Byomkesh May 13, 2016 12:39pm

Indians are happy to know that Pakistan want to seal its border with Afghanistan to stop extremism entering.Better late than never . Pakistan faced the real taste of terrorism recently that India has already experienced for decades.A stable & democratic Afghanistan is in Indias interest & we would continue our efforts to make it powerful.

Dare to Bare May 13, 2016 12:41pm

The reason is simple. The drugs smugglers and warlords sitting in Afghan government see such border control management a threat to their narcotics business.

Karrar (Vancouver) May 13, 2016 12:42pm

Hundreds want to cross, millions are already enjoying their stay, create mischief and resist to leave the country they hate so much? And now their impotent armed forces have brought their tanks to our border? Does anyone own Pakistan? Or have we announced a use and abuse SALE?

Krishnandu May 13, 2016 12:44pm

I just wander how immature Pakistanis are.. You can't see the future conflict of this case.. I think there are many big players standing beside of Afghanistan.. The reality is that Pakistan has every right to fence his border but has no right to helping China for their economic growth.. India want this, Uncle Sham wants this,, Russia has the fear to loose the no.2 position,, Japan, Australia is the recognize enemy of China.. Iran is playing to become the master of Muslim world. Now i recognize that future days of Pakistan is too bad and the reason is just you are in Chinese side.. Nothing else...

Sajjad Khan May 13, 2016 12:45pm

Teach this ungrateful country for which Pakistan has sacrificed its developement an unforgettable lesson. They are counting on help from the eastern border , just in case.

Ed May 13, 2016 12:53pm

Seal all illegal routes with concrete sky high. Why should there be a porous border for illegal crossings? Who would benefit from that?

abdul May 13, 2016 12:53pm

We don't have an issue with sealing the border.....but please do it on your side of the border.....We don't accept the Durand line.

Ahmed Ali May 13, 2016 01:02pm

@Sunil : Its not border dispute, its just that Indian funded terrorists are crossing from Afghanistan to Pakistan. And Pakistan wants to put a stop to it. Indian trolls are not welcome.

Aijaz May 13, 2016 01:12pm

pakistan May 13, 2016 01:31pm

@Krishnandu what ever you said made no sense at all..... we don't have right to make our economy grow what are you saying....??? and as far as Pakistan future is concerned statics say very quite opposite to your analysis......

Changez_Khan May 13, 2016 01:59pm

Fence the borders and keep the terrorists and Indian spies away.

KRM May 13, 2016 02:06pm

Fence the border at all cost, very necessary for Pakistan

Akram May 13, 2016 02:10pm

Than Afghans should not blame Pakistan for it's troubles. You can't have it both ways.

Taimoor Khan May 13, 2016 02:30pm

Afghan intelligence NDS in partnership with Indian intelligence RAW keep on sending terrorists through these pours crossings. No wonder the Afghan regime is resisting the fencing. What needs to be done must be done to protect the citizens of Pakistan. Fence the whole border, even if it mean using force.

Sami Shahid May 13, 2016 02:32pm

Afghanistan is well aware of that the enemy of Afghanistan is present in Afghanistan and this is why Afghanistan does not want Pakistan to fence its border.....because Afghanistan wants to send explosives and suicide bombers in Pakistan via Afghanistan. Pakistan should use its Air Force if the stupid Afghanistan use its tanks...this Afghanistan is a constant irritant !

Ali May 13, 2016 02:36pm

This should have been done long time ago and our country wouldn't be in the state it is right now

SAEED MASOOD May 13, 2016 02:37pm

Pakistan wants to fence its border what is that to the type of world we are living every border should be protected to the maximum...Afghanistan is sending terrorists into Pakistan...please do not test our limits...

Dr. Saad May 13, 2016 02:47pm

@Sunil Even Afghanistan? Only Afghanistan is having issues of border dispute with Pakistan. By the way, there is a difference between a border and a Line of Control! Read what United Nations has to say about it and learn something for a change. Good Day!

irfan May 13, 2016 02:48pm

what happened to Pakistan's Afghan brethren???

lafanga May 13, 2016 02:48pm

Here is the American and Afghan twisted logic.

  • Pakistan is not doing enough to prevent Haqqani network from attacking inside Afghanistan.

  • Pakistan decides to put up a fence along it's border to prevent illegal border crossings.

  • Afghans start protesting against the fence.

Everyone can see what is going on here.

AK May 13, 2016 02:53pm

@Peacock well there is a historical significance of Azad kashmir(Admisitered by Pakistan) and occupied kashmir(admismistered by India). Why did India install laser security devices over the line of control???

DifferentPerspective May 13, 2016 02:56pm

Keep the border closed, keep all exports from Pakistan side closed and they will soon understand how "negotiate" i.e. listen. They go and shake hands with India to spread terrorism in Pakistan and then expect us to help them, no way.

Mohammad Aryubi May 13, 2016 02:59pm

The situation has been simmering for quite sometime, and it's likely that armed conflict may erupt at any time that would endanger regional peace. Now Afghanistan is actually blocked by Pakistan causing economic hardship to the people of Afghanistan, that tends to prompt Afghanistan to retaliate.

jg May 13, 2016 03:02pm

@Xinyang Peng, Shenzen we pushtuns in pak damn care about what Afghanistan thinks. We pushtuns voted for pakistan in a referendum under british raj.
Why did afghans accept durand line when british were here and suddenly took a 180 deg reversal after their exit

Saqob May 13, 2016 03:13pm

This proves that Afghanistan sends terrorist in Pakistan with finance from india.

If theirs a figurative it will take 10mins to defeat Afghan and send them back to stone age once more.

timetostopthis May 13, 2016 03:30pm

Why does Pakistan have problems with all its neighbours? Time for it to review its policies so it can have friendly relations with its neighbours and be able to focus on its economy and education.

timetostopthis May 13, 2016 03:35pm

Why was Pakistan protesting when India was fencing its own border with Pakistan? Now they should stop the fencing because they were against India doing the same thing. Cant have one policy for one neighbour and another one for another neighbour.

Khanjee May 13, 2016 03:39pm

It's never too late. The border should have been sealed decades ago. The pashtun belt on Pakistan side is a part of Pakistan, not Afghanistan which they claim. Pakistan has every right to seal the border

Desi Dimag May 13, 2016 03:41pm

We need a strong Afghanistan that can defend herself against any aggression.

Zak May 13, 2016 03:59pm

Oh great. Now we have problems on the western border as well. Can the foreign office please wake up and do its job?

Desi Dimag May 13, 2016 04:12pm

@Pakistani You are seeing what Afghanistan can do. Wake up and smell the coffee.

MHK May 13, 2016 04:18pm

Seal the border permanently

Indian May 13, 2016 04:21pm

This is not good from Pakistan side. We all know that Afghanistan is not good condition and they need the help from all their neighbors. Pakistan should open the border and try to help Afghanistan so that Afghanistan can economically, politically stand on its feet.

Khalid Ayub May 13, 2016 04:22pm

@Sunil yes I have seen that, and I also know Pakistan is fencing the border for a right reason!

Khalid Ayub May 13, 2016 04:24pm

@usman sure Pakistan will not allow anyone to sabotage,

Raja farhat Abbas May 13, 2016 04:30pm

@ali I agree with your comment 100%.

Mo May 13, 2016 04:30pm

@Sunil but that is Afghanistan ! A war torn country, what's your excuse ?

Zia ur Rehman May 13, 2016 04:31pm

Because Afghanistan takes dictation from India and both countries are promoting terrorism in Pakistan. The need of the time is that Movements of masses across the border should be strictly monitored and regulated.

Aatir ehrar May 13, 2016 04:34pm

@Sunil Yes ofcourse why won't they since the warmongering Indian gov is behind it.

Khalid Ayub May 13, 2016 04:34pm

@Karrar (Vancouver) well said

Iqbal Malik May 13, 2016 04:34pm

Permanently close the border with Afghanistan, no more relationship with it. Historically they are thankless and unreliable people.

Iqbal Malik May 13, 2016 04:37pm

@Sunil do you know why? because the puppet government is in place over there. The, people of Afghanistan are with Pakistan, who cares the government.

lafanga May 13, 2016 04:39pm

@Indian "This is not good from Pakistan side. We all know that Afghanistan is not good condition and they need the help from all their neighbors. Pakistan should open the border and try to help Afghanistan so that Afghanistan can economically, politically stand on its feet."

We are done helping. Why don't you volunteer for a change instead of lecturing Pakistan.

Imran May 13, 2016 04:44pm

@Xinyang Peng, Shenzen Pakistan's border with Afghanistan is an INTERNATIONALLY recognized border. So if Afghanistan refuses to accept it, then it is their problem. They already have a big mess on their hands in their own country and now on behest of the Indians, they think they can take on Pakistan. Pakistan should retaliate by sending all the Afghan refugees home who we have been sheltering for years. Or better yet, send the Afghan refugees to India, their new found friend.

Khalid Ayub May 13, 2016 04:45pm

@Krishnandu you are right " I think there are many big players standing beside of Afghanistan". Yes and Pakistan knows who is standing behind Afghan current policies and Govt, China has nothing to do with it. If India can Fence the border so do Pakistan and why not when we want to stop the terrorists from entering into our land we will take steps to counter and Pakistan will not allow to sabotage.

lafanga May 13, 2016 04:45pm

Looks like India got really embarrassed by the Kulbushan Jhadev capture so now India is flexing it's diplomatic muscle to encircle Pakistan from all sides. First it was US coming out of nowhere and now Afghans are squealing.

Do what you can India but this won't change the facts. You are spreading terror in Pakistan and Pakistan will eliminate this threat by any means possible.

M. Siddique May 13, 2016 04:46pm

Let the trucks pass through normal border crossings. Blockage impact poor people who depend on this economic activity. Fences are for border in general. Please separate the two.

Amin May 13, 2016 04:46pm

This is the gratitude for having millions of Afghans for decades. Border must be fenced at all costs.

Imran May 13, 2016 04:46pm

@xmaestro And of course, please do not forget all the poppy smugglers of Afghanistan which seems to be their only industry other than gun toting.

Imran May 13, 2016 04:47pm

@INDIA And why does India have a fence on their border with Pakistan?

Javed May 13, 2016 04:48pm

A confederate agreement would be in the best interest of both peoples.

M. Siddique May 13, 2016 04:48pm

@Sunil, No, Afghanistan and Pakistan have a recognized border it is matter of fencing. It is unlike India occupying Kashmir illegally.

Imran May 13, 2016 04:50pm

@Krishnandu China is our neighbour and have stood by us at all times. You will soon realize that it is always better to be friends with your neighbors.

Syed Zafsr Kazmi U.S.A May 13, 2016 04:51pm

@Sunil Because as evident as it is, Afghanistan has turned into a puppet of India - the mastermind of all trouble in the region from Sri Lanka to Bangladesh to China and Pakistan.

ALI May 13, 2016 04:54pm

@Sunil also see now India has border dispute with Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, China etc. Pakistan has stop illegal moment of people entering illegal to Pakistan. It is not a dispute it is Pakistan right.

Imran May 13, 2016 04:57pm

@Mo Do not tell us how to defend our territorial integrity. None of your business.

ALI May 13, 2016 05:00pm

It is slimier expectation by Afghanistan. When I ask my neighbor to keep their door open for me. Every neighbor will ask yes you are welcome, but I have to knock the door and come through proper Chanel.

Amin May 13, 2016 05:02pm

Seal the border and send all the ungrateful Afghans back to their country that they love so much.

Anthony May 13, 2016 05:05pm

@imran Khan ...... Bro its india who has closed the borders by fencing and making walls not pakistan

Sam May 13, 2016 05:09pm

Afghanistan has tanks? :)

Syed Zafsr Kazmi U.S.A May 13, 2016 05:10pm

Pakistan must continue building the fence impenetrable to terrorists from either side. A great move that must be appreciated by all concerned as U.S is also planning to build some kind of fence/wall at Mexican border to stem the tide of illegal immigrants although there is no fear of any terrorists coming in from Mexico.

sbk May 13, 2016 05:11pm

These extremists are Muslims who have not read, heard or understood Islam. Islam teaches love, peace, forgiveness, compassionate to others and togetherness. These extremists, either knowingly or unknowingly doing disservice to Islam, by killing people in the name of Islam.

azi ahmed May 13, 2016 05:16pm

Tension further heightened between Pakistan and Afghanistan ....and our prime minister just signed a deal for electricity transmission lines through Afghanistan....?????

Kashmiri Nationalist May 13, 2016 05:30pm

Good work Pak forces do the needful. If the smaller brother needs discipline and tough love don't be shy to show it. Afghanistan is a mess and they need spood feeding. RAW activity must be put to an end at once

afridi May 13, 2016 05:34pm

@Sunil its not a border dispute. its illegal crossing points dispute. there is a proper road and a crossing point from where to enter the other country. hope you get it.

Kashmiri Nationalist May 13, 2016 05:34pm

@Xinyang Peng, Shenzen that's their problem, the borders are final and nothing they can do about it. Pashtuns defended Pakistan against bajaur incursions decades ago. They are with Pakistan always

Tariq khan May 13, 2016 05:42pm

Well do it the straight way! Deport all of em back to where they belong! This is the appreciation they show after excepting refugees??

Sami Khan May 13, 2016 05:42pm

Pakistan should fence all border with Afghanistan and control movement of people as well as good on border

Zaman Afridi May 13, 2016 05:44pm

Pakistan has full right to establish fence in its own territory. Afghans con't stop us. Pakistan should establish fence on all border with Afghanistan

Ajay May 13, 2016 05:48pm

@xmaestro its all because of different positions regarding the actual boarder. If Pakistan does the fencing and Afghanistan allows that means they are accepting the fence as boarder. Why you are dragging India into it.

Sachin May 13, 2016 05:50pm

There is a very huge smuggling, narcotics, weapons black market on both sides of the border controlled by war lords cartel and local politicians. Its pure business reason why they dont want border fenced.

AKB May 13, 2016 05:52pm

No--No--, there should be no feelings of enmity between two the brother Islamic countries because it will only benefit the enemies of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Both should work together for peace and stability.

Rahul May 13, 2016 06:15pm

Afghanistan has never recognized the Durand line.

Muhammad Ali May 13, 2016 06:17pm

Fence it..

Naveed May 13, 2016 06:26pm

@Ali very right.

shafqat a mir May 13, 2016 06:26pm

@Dr. Saad yes doctor, they need to understand one way or other, their myopic

view is not acceptable, seal the border please, and let SUNILS KNOW ABOUT IT

Pakistani May 13, 2016 06:32pm

@Sunil . What about India having border problem with China and even Bangladesh? Don't throw stones at others when you are living in a glass house.

JQ May 13, 2016 06:36pm

Set up a laser fence,

Aditya May 13, 2016 06:36pm

@Pakistani we have resolved border disputes with Bangladesh but even in the history our borders never saw tanks facing each other.

Close the border

MP May 13, 2016 06:46pm

How come no one points fingers at Afghanistan and Afghanis. They keep blaming Pakistan for cross-border terrorism in their country but they won't even allow Pakistan to check the border. Their people want to come and live in Pakistan but they hate Pakistan.

peace May 13, 2016 06:50pm

25 years too late! Should have been done decades ago...

Muhammad May 13, 2016 06:55pm

Must build wall, too much India influence in Afghanistan. Thanks to the incompetent leaders busy building their wealth that now Afghanistan is going to dictate us! Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

حصيف May 13, 2016 06:55pm

People fight each other for a useless piece of desert and kill each other for uninhabitable glacier. When do we learn to live in peace?

Ghaznavi May 13, 2016 06:56pm

@Rahul "Afghanistan has never recognized the Durand line."

So what? We cannot destroy ourselves to please the ungrateful Afghans. Its time to move all Afghan refugees right at the border.

Tahir Lone May 13, 2016 07:02pm

The Afghan Army.. have no right to protest about fencing when they use every platform possible to complain about terror bases in Pakistan. Enough is enough.. we must control this border with the strictest measures possibles including surveillance and armed drones (Burraq).

Pakistan has suffered immense damage from Afghan terror infiltration including the APS school attack which was handled from Afghanistan.

Afghan NDS intel agency was caught red handed holding meetings with the spokesman for TTP by the American Army in 2013.

In additions, criminals, guns and drugs are routinely brought into Pak from Afghanistan.

Tahir Lone May 13, 2016 07:04pm

@Amir Khan To send in terrorists and their intel officers to conduct terror operations in Pakistan.

ali May 13, 2016 07:09pm

@Peacock They are fencing the Torkham border not closing it permanently. Once fence is built trade will still be made.

ali May 13, 2016 07:14pm

@Yaqoob Khan Whatever is in the BEST interest of the country must be done. The average Pakistani does not need to be made aware of it. This same principle applies everywhere the world, including countries like US, India, UK.

Imran May 13, 2016 07:23pm

People who think Pak can use force then they are stupid because using force means sanctions on yo. Which will take your economy back to nowhere.

syed muhammad haris May 13, 2016 07:49pm

@Peacock well said :)

sterry May 13, 2016 08:05pm

@Imran Historically, Pakistan has developed when sanctions were slapped on it. Look at the JF 17 development; Pakistan has to find its own way since Indian lobby in US is poisoning relations and Afghanistan is a puppet state of India. The only way to stop Indian agents, Afghan refugees and terrorists from entering Pakistan is to fence the border. US government says more needs to be done so please US help Pakistan make a wall like US is building on border with Mexico to keep out Mexicans. It will help Pakistan keep out Afghans and no Pakistani can go to Afghanistan too !

Zak May 13, 2016 08:07pm

US, Afghanistan and China dependent on us. We lead the region.

Ali May 13, 2016 08:18pm

Pakistan and Afghanistan border should be fenced to stop terrorists from crossing. This is the best way to ensure terrorists from taking advantage of the porous border. Yet, Afghanistan is objecting to fencing as it did during President Karzai's tenure. Afghan intelligence agency (NDS) at the behest of their Indian master (RAW) wants to keep it open to continue state-sponsored terrorism. The US must intervene to make sure the fence is built and US can pay for it. This will help restore peace and stability in the region. This is US and Pakistan's priority, hopefully it is Afghanistan's too.

Usman May 13, 2016 08:43pm

Afghanistan & US say "Terrorists are crossing over from Pakistan" Pakistan says "We cant control who crosses the border as families, traders, nomads cross the border" Afghanistan & US say "It is your responsibility to control who comes over the border" Pakistan says "We don't have the resources or technology to monitor such a difficult border" Afghanistan & US says "You must control who crosses your border" Pakistan says " Baloch militants, RAW agents, sectarian militants, kidnappers, drug smugglers are crossing the border you control those elements" Afghanistan & US say " it all comes down to Pakistan to control the border" Pakistan says "Alright we are going to fence the border, along the internationally recognized Durand line which the government of Afghanistan recognized" Afghanistan says "You can't do that" Pakistan says "Why not?" Afghanistan says" dont fence the border as families, traders, nomads cross the border"

Usman May 13, 2016 08:45pm

@Sunil still less than India, India has border disputes with Pakistan, China, Bangladesh and Nepal

Simply Human May 13, 2016 08:53pm

@Usman ..India's dispute with Bangladesh already resolved and Nepal never had any dispute with India

Waqar Ahmad May 13, 2016 09:18pm

@Karrar (Vancouver) Dear can you ask such questions in the context of Pakistan and USA.

Devon May 13, 2016 10:18pm

Can't beleive India is blamed even for a border dispute. The majority of the readers think sending the refugees because of TTP will solve the problem. But when you are hosting Afghan Taliban you don't a say. All the key board warriors here see everything as black/ white, ask your government/ establishment to send the refugees and talk in the same hard tone as they normally reserve for India. They won't and they know the importance of Afghanistan.

Raja Farhat Abbas Jhelumi May 13, 2016 10:22pm

@A Khan Paper tigers do not have hearts of steel, if they wish to test us Pakistani's, they can try it!!.

Y-Fi May 13, 2016 11:21pm

OMG Pakistanies are way too slow in their approach ......

Usman May 13, 2016 11:57pm

@Simply Human Ask the Nepalis who claim Uttarkhand has occupied Nepal as the the treaty of Saugali has the same legal basis as the Durand treaty.

Tahir May 14, 2016 01:00am

@Simply Human Nepal has major issues with indian control and blackmailing esp after earthquake. Very evil intentions that have upset the Nepalise.

Glad China was able to strike multiple deals to help Nepal through their crisis.

Zak May 14, 2016 01:07am

@Sunil and guess who is behind it all, the one and only nuisance country in the region that 'wants to be , what it can never be.'

Zak May 14, 2016 01:13am

@Krishnandu firstly, India is a very poor country being used by the big powers , like a babu. Secondly, the fact that our strong friendship with China riles you to a nervous breakdown, shows we are doing exactly the right thing. Thirdly, as you said future is really bad, because we will be earning $40 billion a year from CPEC within 10 and not the $80 billion we wanted. For this we have to wait another 20 years.

Arslan May 14, 2016 06:52am

@Sunil you got it wrong, its the other way around :)

Haider May 14, 2016 08:37am

AFG Govt along with its Indian masters are harboring terrorists that are unleashed into Pakistan. Now the Zarb-e-Azb has destroyed them all in Pakistani NDS/RAW is giving them medical, welfare and arms. So there should be a Wall and all Afghans should be sent back to AFG. If AFG protests or block then mow over them, they are not friends.

Haider May 14, 2016 08:39am

@Indian What do you think Pakistan is doing since 1978, there are over 5 million refugees in Pakistan. Why didnt India give shelter to Burmese refugese or Bangalis?

M M AMIN ( Old Ravian) May 14, 2016 08:53am

@Peacock forget it sir . How can we accept illegals entrants? Pakistan must stay firm and deport all such persons who are not its nationals .

M M AMIN ( Old Ravian) May 14, 2016 08:57am

@Xinyang Peng, Shenzen . Afghanistan cannot be allowed to violate our borders . We have to enforce zero tolerance.

M M AMIN ( Old Ravian) May 14, 2016 09:07am

Pakistan must not only fence it . We must install LASER WALL and fight off Afghan resistance.

ahaq May 14, 2016 09:12am

Pakistan is now seeing the real Afghanistan that is ready to militarily challenge Pakistan. Pakistan has sacrificed a lot for Afghanistan over the years and should see the facts clearly that do not help by appeasing others for aid etc. Time to look up for your interest. Afghanistan was declared corrupt even by its major western allies and supporters. Indian Raw is working with corrupt elements of Afghan government to instigate military confrontation. This must stop

Komal S May 14, 2016 09:28am

@Syed Usman Wazir Glad you recognize that Afghans do not accept the Durand line as border. Given that scenario how do you think they are going to allow you build the fence. Afghan behavior is consistent with their stance

Shadow May 14, 2016 09:34am

Close this border permanently. We don't any Afghanis come to Pakistan as they have done a lot of damage to our motherland.

Real Indian May 14, 2016 09:47am

@ Lafanga,

But you guys don't like India to have a good relationship with Afghanistan. India built the Parliament in that country and there many Afganis in all over India.

Something Fishy May 14, 2016 10:02am

Why Afghan and the US government are (officially and publically declared) against the fencing of this border?

ZAFAR May 14, 2016 10:25am

@Sunil Afghanistan has always rejected the Durrand Line and claims the pre-1893 borders as its true dominion.

ak May 14, 2016 11:12am

@Sunil The context is totally different. If you dont know anything, fitting that you just remain quite. You are not the one who lost countless brothers to these terrorists who by the ways have been proven to be fed by your side.

ak May 14, 2016 11:13am

I dont see why afghanistan is having a problem with this. Its going to resolve numerous problems for both the countries. Or is the afghan govt. compromised.

rrd May 14, 2016 12:38pm

@Shakil Ahmed ,please fence your eastern border too.

Ahmer May 14, 2016 12:59pm

I am a Pakistani and I find it funny that almost all my compatriots are in unison for the fence along Pak-Afghan border, yet when India started the same along their side, the same people cried foul play.

Zaki Atif May 14, 2016 01:10pm

Come on Dear Indians !!! Dont use the same rhetoric that Pakistan should support Afghans in this hour of need. We have been supporting them since last 30 years. Hosting their refugees to sending supplies. We done everything we could. But, it just came to us that how ungrateful a nation Afghanistan is. If u believe in such a thing why not host or at least share the burden of hosting Afghan refugees with Pakistan. Believe me we will be a lot happier sending them to India via Wahga. Afghans using tanks or personnel to scare Pakistan is just like "Mr. Bean" standing against "The Hulk"

Aa2544 May 14, 2016 01:36pm

Just to let you know, it's not now, it is also the legacy of British raj in the form of disputed Durand line

Whatever May 14, 2016 01:36pm

@Ali Kazmi you are so ignorant to know that India does not share the border with Afghanistan.

brar May 14, 2016 01:53pm

India is doing all this majority of the Pakistanis will say, I am wiriting this before reading even a single comment.

SAEED MASOOD May 14, 2016 03:22pm

India and America will destroy already destroyed Afghanistan even more...

Muhammad May 14, 2016 03:24pm

this is the time paksitan teach afghanistan who w r and what pakistan do. They are out of their limits.

Ravi May 14, 2016 03:37pm

@xmaestro why should India care if you fence your border with Afghanistan? Maybe you are imagining things!

Atam Vetta May 14, 2016 03:52pm

Fencing a border between two countries is never a problem. The problem with the Af-Pak border is that the two countries do not agree where the border is.

Indian May 14, 2016 05:19pm

@lafanga we Indians are doing our best to help Afghanistan .we are just requesting Pakistan not to destabilize Afghanistan as stable Afg is good for every one

Pakistani May 14, 2016 06:15pm

@Aditya . India is the only South Asian country in the region to have fought war with two countries. Do not criticize Pakistan for fencing the border, while India has fenced the disputed Kashmir LOC line.

solani May 14, 2016 08:06pm

This is not a border dispute, one has to save their citizens. Not siting around and watching their citizens dying.

Something Fishy May 14, 2016 09:44pm

@abdul so you are claiming to be representative of all Afghans? and afghan government? and claiming that 'you' do not accept and honor all and any international agreements made between countries? Wow, even any super power did not claim that!

Tushar Singh May 14, 2016 10:34pm

@Changez_Khan: "Fence the borders and keep the terrorists and Indian spies away."

Both are already present inside Pakistan. Too late.

leela4fun May 14, 2016 10:42pm

Pakistanis must show their large hearts and accommodate their fellow brothers sensitivities and resolve the core issue of the Durand line in accordance to the wishes of the Afghanis.

POLITY May 15, 2016 12:44am

This was the main purpose of operation 9/11.

Bilal May 15, 2016 05:41am

@Sunil yes it is having border disputes because illegal afghans who are not registered want to enter Pakistan. I am sure you can understand that (to answer your own statement of even pakistan is having border issues with afghanistan).

Alarmed Khan May 15, 2016 07:44am

@rehan ; Did you read the article? It's about the Pashtun tribe on both sides of the border and Afghan 2nd, 3rd, 4th thoughts about the Durand Line!

True Blue Indian May 15, 2016 08:47am

@usman Come on don't bring India everywhere It's Afghan - Pakistan matter Also India is not against CPEC for God's sake. A prosperous Pakistan is good for usm

Baqir Khattak May 15, 2016 09:15am

Afghanistan should realize that a country can't reach to the heights of sovereignty and stability by asserting Pakistan of administrative weaknesses. As a land locked country it should carry itself in a peaceful and diplomatic manner. In this particular situation, the porosity of the border can be a hurdle in combating terrorism and other illegal intrusion, creating menacing threat to the safety of the Pakistani people.

Opt May 15, 2016 02:30pm

Pakistan should build a wall along the border and have Afghanistan pay for it, just like Trump is proposing with Mexico.

PJ May 15, 2016 11:37pm

I think everyone is overlooking Afghanistan's prospective. As they don't recognize some of the border and claim the land of its own, fencing the border will defacto make the border line as of Pakistan's land. Pakistan can do fencing on the recognized borders which have no dispute but should consult Afghans on the fencing at the disputed areas. In nutshell, Pak has every right to build fencing in its 'own areas' and if that is the case, they should do it.
