MULTAN: A man allegedly committed suicide after poisoning his four minor children, one of whom later died at the Nishtar Hospital here on Thursday. According to police, Asif (48), a resident of Bhaiti Saraye, served his four children -- Rida (3), Taseer (10), Zainab (11) and infant Noor -- poisonous food when his wife Robina Bibi was out of the house, before taking poison himself.

On being informed of the incident, a Rescue 1122 team arrived at the scene and shifted Asif and his children to the Nishtar Hospital.

Asif and Zainab died at the hospital, while three children are under treatment there.

Police said apparently Asif took the extreme step because of poverty and his failure to pay debt. Samples of the poisonous food were collected by the Lohari Gate police.

CASE: Police registered a case against unidentified miscreants who threw a threatening letter in the Government Bukhari Public High School, Vilayatabad.

The case was registered on the complaint of the school Headmaster Abdul Salam Bhutta. Jalilabad police lodged an FIR (48/16) against unknown miscreants under section 506 of the PPC.

The school falls in ‘A’ category with regard to security threat. The police have started investigations.
