ISLAMABAD: Encroachments were removed from land owned by the Bhara Kahu Degree College by teams from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) on Friday.

Due to the encroachments, the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) could not build boundary walls around the first degree college for women in the rural areas of the federal capital, without which the college cannot be inaugurated.

Residents of Bhara Kahu have been waiting for the women’s college to be completed for 11 years.

The college was first promised by the then Prime Minister, Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali in 2004. However, construction work was only started in 2012 and completed last year. Because of a dispute with some locals over the boundary wall, FDE could not build boundary walls.

According to a press release, a joint operation was conducted by CDA and ICT teams on directives of State Minister for Capital Administration and Development Division, Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry.
