Pakistan to be provided complete security in India: BCCI

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Anurag Thakur has assured all teams of the 'highest' security amid reports that Pakistan has proposed to play its World Twenty20 matches at a neutral venue.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan on Monday said a proposal was given to play their World Twenty20 matches on neutral venues next month in the event that the government does not allow the team to tour India.

India host the ICC World Twenty20 from March 8 to April 3 but Pakistan's participation is subject to government clearance as there are specific threats, Khan said.

“We have told the International Cricket Council now and before as well, the decision (to tour India) is with the government and it will consider if there is a specific Pakistan oriented security threat,” Khan told media.

But according to Thakur, the BCCI was well equipped to host a world event and added that 'no country should feel insecure.'

“Pakistan is one among those 16 teams and the Indian government will provide complete security to all the teams. I think all the qualifying teams should come and participate in the World Cup. India is ready and if any country has some issues then they need to decide about it,” Thakur was quoted as saying by Times of India.

“BCCI will organise the World Cup in the nicest possible way and will provide every team with highest protection. Earlier also we have hosted many World Cups and international matches and I don't think any country should feel insecure here.”

2009 champion Pakistan will take on the Group A winner in Kolkata on March 16, before locking horns with traditional rival India in Dharamsala on March 19. Its remaining two matches will be in Mohali against New Zealand and Australia on March 22 and 25, respectively.

First round (group winners to progress to second round)

Group A – Bangladesh, Netherlands, Ireland and Oman

Group B – Zimbabwe, Scotland, Hong Kong and Afghanistan

Do not trust Indian promise. If Pakistan team performs well (unlikely in the first place), the team will be threatened with security issues and performance will be effected. I think Pakistan should insist on neutral venue for the Pakistan games or boycott the T20 tournament.

UAE and Sri Lanka are much much safer then India and India refused to play there. Therefore PK should refuse to play in India and their concerns are legitimate unlike Indias. Look at how many open threats and attacks have taken place in India over the last year. India can't secure its own country that not anyone else fault.

India in unsafe for all the Pakistani, even for a common man there. Govt. of Pakistan should never allow PCB to tour India. Pakistan would have given to play on neutral venue and I think there could be nothing better than UAE. Otherwise Pakistan shouldn't play and stay at home and focus on Asia Cup. we know you have hosted two world cups which were shared with you by Pak and SL. your statement is good enough... in the wake of recent attack on PCB officials we are asking to beef up security for Pak contingent / officials.... not all teams are from Pak.... as such keeping in view a history of sour relations and particularly in recent past how you treated us in your country was quite nervy and shameful on your part .... despite such incidents we are showing sportsmanship to honor our commitment for t20 WC .... though you never bothered even to say sorry for turning your back on us for failing to commit MOU and further you spoiled it by refusing to play a series even at neutral territory. we are coming, to take the cup in India.... many would rant oh if you don wish play someone else, this is not end of world, if you don like don come.... so on.... cup belongs to Pak.... for sure. just be ready to ensure nothing untoward happens to our players/ officials. hope you understand.

all those who are commenting about security issue in India should know that there are already 100s of your players participating in the SAF games 2016 happening in India..just check with those players about the security issue before commemting non sense.. also, RSS and shiv sena has never dome any harm to any players ever , they are entities who have some reservations and have different means to show their opposition which is OK as long as your act are per the rule and law.

@Truth some things are more than what we will loose. Respect comes first. The sort of treatment your board gave to us is enough for us to bycott playing in India. Anyways what is the lost for us since we are not getting anything from this WC. I see a alot of Indian saying that we should not play against Pakistan till condition gets better so the same is from our side. Whether India Australia or West Indies whoever win the cup has no effect to us

It is not about physical attacks on Pakistani players, but the players cannot perform 100% with constant fear and threat perception as Shiv Sena has time and again said that they are against anything Pakistani in India. Ghulam Ali, Kasuri book launch incidences are fresh in the mind. So Pakistan should not send their cricket team to India. Just look at the Indian crowd behavior during hockey matches where players were constantly jeered and there was constant hooting, when Pakistan beat India few months back.

It is a different matter though that over 500 Pakistanis men and women are currently participating in South Asian Games in the North East of India without any problem and Pakistan has not raised the issue of their security.

Organized World Cup matches before but never intolerant and Pakistan centered hatred has gone this far. Pakistan should not send the team even on an inch of suspicion about lapse of security. Australia did it in 96 and currently at u-19 World Cup, Pakistan is fully entitled to put security of its players ahead of anything.

Pakistan should NOT play in India. Since Pakistan Cricket team has been threatened by Shiv Sena before, they are fully justified in playing at a neutral venue. Players cannot perform under duress. Secondly, a good retort / excuse to India, since India has refused to play in Pakistan.

@Cricket fan I will have to disagree.. many time Pak and India have not played, it didn't bother any team except for business revenues. saying that, as a pakistani i am confident that india will provide full security, but pakistan also has relevant concerns given the atmosphere, which is political and nothing to do with the good people of india, save, perhaps a few. The decision ultimately will be for the players themselves to decide and the team as a whole. i would think India is well equipped to keeping all guests safe and sound.

Sad day for cricket if Pakistan Team does not come for the world cup. There is no fear but anger in the minds of Pakistani people due to the behaviour of our Right Wing Parties. I am angry myself. However there is no fun without an India Pakistan match. All other matches are not as thrilling. I do hope we will get to see the match. All the roads will be deserted and movie halls empty.

So how can they be trusted? it is in the best interest of both the countries if Pakistan plays their games at a neutral venue as the current environment in India is not safe for Pakistani players.

@Salim No need approval BCCI promised that's over if pakistan team wants to come welcome Otherwise they can withdraw from worldcup !! Ball is in pakistan court and I am 100 % sure they will come. If they don't want to send please don't send commentator ,umpires,saff players etc also.

@Utopia Sir, time has changed drastically. No one dare says NO to Big 3, (India, Australia, England), no bragging but money talks. You will see Pakistan surely going to India. I myself don't agree with the term 'Big 3", but it just happens to be the fact of these days. Truth is bitter, but diversion from truth is worst than bitter. Just saying.

@Utopia I believe international tournament can't be play on team choice. If you want to come welcome other please withdraw from T20. Rules can't be change for any team request.

@bharat Isolated? well we are playing with India and not participating in your IPL either so what isolation are you talking about as we do not have cricketing terms with India .... the same country that signs an MoU to play Pakistan (as home country) and do not fulfill it. Pakistan has and will continue to survive in the cricketing world without India's support.

@Hitesh No , actually we haven't . Security situation changes , improves and worsens in developing countries. Pakistan had been doing the dirty work for others . Fighting the war against terror ,so that its neighbours live in peace. Things are changing here and who else but the neighbours should lend a hand against this fight and show confidence by sending teams , but unfortunately this doesn't happen .We are always at each other throats. Isn't it obvious with BCCI being among the most powerful entity to influence ICC. Even if pakistan dropped out, decisions will still be in favour of BCCI, since pak based PCB holds relatively zero power. Plus BCCI has said every team will be provided highest levels of security.
