APROPOS the news in Metro section ‘Protest over plan to open school in residential area’ (Jan 20). The number of schools and marriage halls operating in residential areas is increasing at an alarming rate.

Such commercial activity in what were once peaceful neighbourhoods destroys peace and tranquility, as there is hardly any parking space for vehicles which block the passage of neighbours.

I request politicians across party lines and the civic authorities to take notice of this increasing illegal activity which is spreading like cancer in our society.
