MARDAN: The police and other law-enforcement agencies on Tuesday arrested 136 suspected criminals in different parts of Mardan during a joint operation.

The arrests were made during raids on the hideouts of the suspects.

Personnel of the police’s rapid response force and elite force, army men and bomb disposal squad members took part in the operation. The police sources said three Kalashnikovs, one shotgun, eight pistols, 205 cartridges and 930kg hashish were also recovered from the arrested men.

They said among the suspects were two proclaimed offenders and that they were shifted to unidentified places for interrogation.

Security checks have been increased on entry and exit points of the district in light of the recent terrorist attack on Nadra regional office in Mardan, which claimed 26 lives.

TWO WOMEN DIE IN ACCIDENT: Two women died and three suffered multiple injuries in a head-on collision between a motorcycle rickshaw and a truck on Mardan-Swabi Road here on Tuesday. An injured woman told the police that she along with mother was traveling in the rickshaw, which was hit by a truck head-on in Par Hoti area. She said her mother and another woman died on the sport, while she, another woman and rickshaw driver were injured. The police registered a case against the truck driver, who fled after the accident, and began investigation. They also seized the truck.
