ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister's Office on Wednesday said the government wants to send a team of special investigators to the Pathankot air base in India for further investigation.

In a statement, the PMO also confirmed the arrests of several members of the Jaish-i-Mohammad militant group, which India suspects of involvement in what was nearly week-long siege of the Pathankot Indian air base earlier this month.

A Reuters report later cited unnamed Pakistani officials as saying head of the Jaish-i-Mohammad group, Masood Azhar, was among those arrested along with his brother and brother-in-law. This could not be independently verified by

The statement was issued after a high-level meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to discuss the country's security situation.

The PMO statement further elaborated that Jaish-i-Mohammad offices in the country were being traced and sealed.

These developments come two days before a meeting between the foreign secretaries is scheduled to take place.

“The meeting expressed national resolve not to allow our territory to be used for acts of terrorism anywhere,” the statement said.

It was also noted that “considerable progress” has been made in the investigations, being carried out against terrorist elements reportedly linked to the Pathankot incident.

“In the spirit of the cooperative approach, it was also decided that in order to carry the process forward, additional information would be required, for which the Government of Pakistan is considering to send a Special Investigation Team to Pathankot, in consultation with the Government of India.”

“The meeting reiterated that in line with our decision to counter and completely eliminate terrorism, Pakistan would remain engaged with India on this issue,” the official statement said.

PM constitutes investigation committee

A committee was also constituted by the prime minister to probe "allegations of alleged involvement of certain individuals in the Pathankot incident," read a statement issued from the PM Office later in the day.

The committee includes top civil and military security officials of the country including Additional IG Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Punjab, Rai Tahir, Additional IG CTD, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Salahuddin Khan, Intelligence Bureau Director, Lahore, Azeem Arshad, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director, Lahore, Dr. Usman Anwar, Brigadier Noman Saeed from the Inter-Services Intelligence and Lt. Col. Irfan Mirza from Military Intelligence.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, National Security Advisor retired Lt General Nasir Khan Janjua, Personal Assistant to Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, DG ISI Rizwan Akhter and other high officials were also present in the meeting .

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had earlier assured his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi that Islamabad would not hesitate to take “prompt and decisive action” if the involvement of Pakistan-based elements in the attack on the Indian airbase was proved beyond doubt.

Editorial: Pathankot aftermath

Later, in a high-level meeting, presided by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and attended by General Raheel Sharif, reiterated Pakistan's commitment to cooperate with India on the Pathankot incident.

Seven Indian security personnel and four suspected gunmen were killed during the assault on the Indian air base near the Pakistan border. The attack threatened to undermine the two countries' fragile peace process.

The Pathankot airbase attack was claimed by separatist group United Jihad Council, an alliance of Kashmiri militants.

Indian Air Force's Pathankot airbase is a mere 50 km from the Pakistan border, and is a major forward operational airbase of the IAF.

On the right track .. For now

Simon Morris Jan 13, 2016 03:19pm

Now thats positive development, folks! Let us not jump into conclusion yet about the quantity and quality of it. Prima facie, it appears that there is a desire to move on by both the countries. Come on, this is better than a protracted phase of mudslinging from both the sides. Action is better than inaction.

Good steps and both nations need to end proxy wars.

Bhargav Jan 13, 2016 03:22pm

Too early to comment anything..... But thank you for the step taken in the right direction, you take one step.... We take two... If not great friends... We can atleast aim to be normal neighbours.....

Ahmed USA Jan 13, 2016 03:22pm

Indeed, Pakistan would love to help... Let our able investigators unearth the root cause of Pathankot incident... Unhindered access to the location... Give them complete access and freedom to complete the assigned task... Finally, trust and appreciate their judgment...

Bipul Jan 13, 2016 03:23pm

Excellent. That's a great change in the approach. Kudos to Nawaz Sharif. I definitely see a brighter future for Indo-Pak relationship. I believe, if India and Pakistan decide to be friendly then there won't be better neighbors anywhere. Am I thinking too far?

Dilip Thorat Jan 13, 2016 03:24pm

Good Move ..expecting output too

Taimoor Khan Jan 13, 2016 03:30pm

If India want Pakistan's help then it should allow Pakistani experts to visit Pathankot for investigation, as mentioned by Pakistan government. If India dither on this, that means it is trying to hide facts.

Vasan Jan 13, 2016 03:30pm

Very good move!

I hope both India and Pakistan will benefit to each other rather than let us down.

Quick Justice for Pathankote Jan 13, 2016 03:31pm

The quick conviction of the terrorists to life imprisonment by Pakistan supreme court can bring justice to the case, which will satisfy Indian government and its people and it will pay way for resumption of the peace talks between the two countries.

Bitter Gourd Jan 13, 2016 03:46pm

@Dilip Thorat Thanks for the appreciation. However, it is hoped that India would also cooperate with us and let our investigators visit Pathankot air base.

Quick Justice for Pathankote Jan 13, 2016 03:46pm

Either Pakistan military court or Pakistan supreme court should immediately convict the handlers and plotter of Pathankote attack to life imprisonment.

Bitter Gourd Jan 13, 2016 03:47pm

@Sunil Of course they will not. However, it depends how much India cooperate with us in providing timely evidence allowing our investigators to collect forensic data at the point of incident.

Mahesh Jan 13, 2016 03:50pm

Mr. Modi was right. That which can not be done by force or rejection, can be done by friendship. This shows that India and Pakistan can be very good friends. Long live India Pakistan friendship.

M.Saeed Jan 13, 2016 03:51pm

Pakistan should clear all the mess created by these terrorists/militants, sabotaging all good efforts of the Government and armed forces in making the whole of Sub-continent a better place to live and enjoy for almost quarter of the entire humanity.

Now the Ball is in the court of Mr Modi. Nawaz had done it's part.

lafanga Jan 13, 2016 03:53pm

So now the ball is in Indian court. If they don't allow Pakistan investigators, which I hope they should BUT suspect they won't, then we will know the real reason behind Pathankot.

Akash Jan 13, 2016 03:56pm

This welcome move is reflection of improved coordination among Pakistani government, army & ISI. Let's hope that this continues in the interest of regional peace & sends clear message to terrorists that time of distinguishing among good or bad terrorism is gone and violent perpetrators would be hunted down. Both countries have to support each other unconditionally & within their constitutional framework.

sid Jan 13, 2016 03:56pm

Dove Jan 13, 2016 03:57pm

Only conviction of the terrorist to life imprisonment can bring justice and closure of the Pathankot attack case, hope Pakistan does it as quickly as possible to give a positive signal for trust, peace and friendship between India and Pakistan.

Pune-India Jan 13, 2016 03:59pm

Good move by Pak Govt...

Ashok Saigal Jan 13, 2016 04:00pm

They say "Every Cloud has a silver lining." On one hand Pakistan has arrested suspects, and on the other hand India has not discounted the possibility of involvement of its own people within the Pathankot Air Base. That is realism. Inshallah, this common fight against terrorists end up helping both nations in getting closer and reducing mutual suspicions about the motives and intentions of the other.

Khwarezmi Jan 13, 2016 04:00pm

The problem with Indians is that you trying to be helpful will be taken as a sign of weakness and more pressure will be put upon you. This is how international relations work. Pakistan should be very careful as the people who lost their loved one in Samjhota Express are still waiting for justice.

Manpreet Singh Jan 13, 2016 04:03pm

PM Sharif should be aware that according to US and UK the evidence provided by India to Pakistan is far from convincing. Although I am against any terrorist organisation wherever in the world they are, we as Pakistanis should be cautious about the retaliation from these extremist towards an already insecured ordinary member of public.

on looker Jan 13, 2016 04:04pm

AZAAD Jan 13, 2016 04:05pm

Brilliant move by Pakistan. Helps Pakistan internally by tightening the screws on yet another source of terror and also showing its commitment to peace with India. India must respond with concrete measures to enshrine cooperation with Pakistan and agreeing to support Pakistan globally. That is necessary to move forward together. Pakistan has done its bit, India needs to its bit....

The Pathankot airbase is a sensitive area and even Indians are not allowed inside. How can we allow Pakistani investigators to enter our vital area?

Ritz Jan 13, 2016 04:09pm

I think it is the new beginning of co-operation between India and Pakistan. I am sure that none of our Pakistani brothers will ever support this kind of act. We both should join hands and help each other to make the lives of the citizens beautiful.

No difference in our cultural roots. We should use it to remove the distrust and become the best allies of the world.

Mehak Gulab Jan 13, 2016 04:11pm

Let us breathe some optimism and possibly improved relation between India & Pakistan. Nice to see help forthcoming from Pakistan to India. Neighbour who help in times of urgent need like this will be appreciated, remembered, reciprocated and cherished by eachother.

Feroz Jan 13, 2016 04:12pm

Positive move ! Lets keep Dramabaazi out and get some names of the masterminds, planners, trainers and foot soldiers who committed the crime. From them we can get information on any Indian drug smugglers who could have facilitated the inbound terrorists.

Pakistan, don't think you'll get embarrassed by acting against the perpetrators even if they are Pakistanis. This will in turn improve your stature in the international community that you're mature enough to act boldly. Same suggestion to India as well. Let PEACE prevail!!

Aurangzeb Jan 13, 2016 04:19pm

Now we are cleaning their offices. Why were we waiting for something to happen? How many more terrorists outfits are still there to be closed? Are we still waiting. I think we somehow do not want to learn. We did not learn from APS Peshawer. Today so many soldiers were martyred in Quetta. Reluctance, reluctance and reluctance to dismantle them!!!!! Why.

Joe Jan 13, 2016 04:20pm

@Taimoor Khan Please don't come with your theories. Both the PMs are heading in right direction. If there is a requirement of Pakistan team to visit Pathankot ,I sure India will take a call on it.

nwa Jan 13, 2016 04:21pm

The ball from Pakistan hands goes to India´s hand. Now Let us see if India allows Pakistani team to visit their air base !!!!.

cool Jan 13, 2016 04:23pm

Good step. however I am afraid as after some time arrested culprits will be free and reason will be given as lake of evidences

just saying Jan 13, 2016 04:23pm

Why arrest and seal jaish offices now? How come they were not sealed a year ago? After all, we have been told that action will be indiscriminate against all non state actors... So far, this indiscriminate action as left out the entire province of Punjab. Makes one think that it's only Patahns, Baloch or Sindhis that are worthy of indiscriminate action.

point of view Jan 13, 2016 04:24pm

Indeed, it is a positive step by Pakistan.

Joe Jan 13, 2016 04:28pm

@lafanga What are the Pakistani team going to do in Pathankot? Except see spot where they were killed. They May like to take DNA samples of terrorists killed and match them with your national data bank.

Abbas naqvi Jan 13, 2016 04:29pm

An encouraging development and a bold step in the right direction. But the tempo needs to be maintained. India- Pakistan engagement should continue. It can produce results benefiting both and the South Asian region. To defeat terrorists in their nefarious designs Islamabad and New Delhi need to join hands. It will open new vistas of cooperation to uproot terrorism from our region. Let's hope the Jan 15 secretary level talks are held in a friendly atmosphere to push the peace process forward.

Sirjee Jan 13, 2016 04:29pm

These people are not good for anyone... better to take care of them at this stage when Pakistan is going for an economical change...

Zakir Hussain Jan 13, 2016 04:30pm

This is undoubtedly a positive step. These cross border adventures do not gain anything expect making the relationship between neighbours worse and causing death to innocent people. At a time when all countries in the neighbourhood are stretched to their limits in combating fundamentalism and terrorism, peace and security can only be achieved if the countries in the region have good relationship trust and cooperation.

Taimoor Khan Jan 13, 2016 04:41pm

@Manoj You clearly didnt read the article. Pakistani experts needs to be on the ground in Pathankot to verify the Indian claims and do their own investigation. If India wants to implicate Pakistan in this incident, and the way Indian media has been behaving lately, it is imperative to have Pakistani boots on ground for verification. In simple word, you cannot have the cake and eat it as well.

God! Am I dreaming? I think Mr. Modi and Mr. Sharif are proving that the best way to solve problems is by respecting each other. Post attacks, there wasn’t any open criticism or over the top bashing from Indian politicians. Neither was there any blatant denial or finger pointing by Pakistani counterparts. We should applaud both the sides for showing extreme sensitivity and professionalism. A rarity in Indo-Pak relations. It actually doesn’t come in our DNA. But the intent is visible. Without pointing fingers on either sides, the attack has proven beyond doubt that there is a fringe who is hell bent on derailing any improvement. And the frightening part is they can do this at will. At the time and place of their choice.

Cyrus Jan 13, 2016 04:54pm

what guarantees do we have that if Pakistan acts against such groups that India won continue to press their intelligensia on non state actors again't Pakistan.

Ahmad Jan 13, 2016 06:50pm

@Uzair Khan both are different events. While the loss of life in Pakistan is regretted, unleashing cross border terrorism will set the entire region on fire. Sharif deserves credit for taking the right step.

Abdul Jan 13, 2016 06:51pm

Good Move by Pak Govt. Development should be our agenda and terror is obstacle.

KN Jan 13, 2016 06:53pm

Seems a good move Lets wait and see whether it is another hogwash or Pakistan is serious this time

indian citzen Jan 13, 2016 06:54pm

Both nations should join hands to eradicate this menace---Well done PAK.

BK Jan 13, 2016 06:56pm

Good step by Pakistan and no doubt the Prime Minister of Pakistan is sincere in his efforts to talk with India.

shrikant Jan 13, 2016 06:57pm

positive step by pakistan government...we as Indians overwhelmed by this action...hope we neighbours will go ahead hand in hand by supressing and vanishing extremists from both sides

Khan Jan 13, 2016 07:00pm

It's important that India should be watching, Pakistan Nawaz might put some opposition party members in jail just to keep India happy and same time getting rid of opposition parties and label them as terrorists.

Shehzad Jan 13, 2016 07:01pm

Lets hope the Indians show urgency in Samjhota express attack as well.

suraj Jan 13, 2016 07:04pm

These arrests prove that mian NS has kept his words of prompt and decisive action. Never in the history of Indo- Pak such things have happened. I think the breeze is flowing favourably for peace to prevail. Wait and watch, the scheduled talks will be held as planned. Salute to the leadership of both he nations, specially that of Pakistan.

Syed Zafar Kazmi U.S.A Jan 13, 2016 07:06pm

Best of wishes to IndoPak relations. Lets move forward together towards peace, prosperity and development, elimination of poverty and a bright future for our masses.

Nilesh Jan 13, 2016 07:09pm

Wow!!! Never expected that I will see this day of pak India friendship in my lifetime. Congrats to all people, we can achieve peace together.

Zen Jan 13, 2016 07:09pm

If India grants the request, it will then ask for a joint investigation where India can question the terrorists.

you like it or not Jan 13, 2016 07:13pm

Its is gonna happen anytime now. good news will be all around and borders will be open. All it take is one compassionate effort from one side to trigger compassionate response from the other side.

WITH LOVE FROM CANADA Jan 13, 2016 07:13pm

VB Nair Jan 13, 2016 07:15pm

Excellent move by Pakistan Govt - We Indians support you in this. Thanks a lot and give the perpetrators the most appropriate punishment for killing 7 innocent people.

Awais Jan 13, 2016 07:18pm

We should definitely find out who did it in our side. I think good relations with India will help to build Pakistan too. Look, they have reached mars and hopefully we can also learn something from our neighbours.

sanket Jan 13, 2016 07:24pm

Both nations are still there on the world map just because of people like you. Otherwise all warmongers would have turned this region into hell.

Dave Jan 13, 2016 07:26pm

@Awais there is good in both the sides of the border and there is evil in both the sides as well. If both the countries work together, nothing can stop us of regaining our place of being the best economies. We have a lot to learn from each other. Hopefully we can leave a better legacy to our children. Peace out.

gknatarajan Jan 13, 2016 07:26pm

good move!

Imran Jan 13, 2016 07:29pm

India also needs to reciprocate and rein in their anti-pakistan lobbies,

v.sreenis Jan 13, 2016 07:30pm

Hope the arrested will not be released after foreign secretary meeting but will be carried to its logical conclusion.

vikram sood Jan 13, 2016 07:31pm

This is a great step, a message to the world, that Pakistan state is serious about tackling the menace of terrorism,

Salim Jan 13, 2016 07:32pm

@Feroz Agreed. There are elements on both sides of the border who don't want peace, whereas almost 90% population from both side of border want peace with each other. leadership from both the sides should cooperate with each other to bring the culprits to justice

ejaz Jan 13, 2016 07:38pm

A step in the right direction. Both India and Pakistan must take measures that contributes toward normalizing the relations between these countries. India must not get complacent due to its standing in the world of public opinion. Pakistan should work on improving its image and make more friends and less enemies.

Saja Jan 13, 2016 07:40pm

Wow!!! Good change in Pakistan.

Dave Jan 13, 2016 07:41pm

@Imran agree with you completely. Dont know how many (so called) first world countries will be thinking how to create a rift again between both the countries. Pakistan govt an military has taken a good step. India needs to reciprocate as well. When two estranged brothers meet, there is more love.

Shyam Kokku Jan 13, 2016 07:50pm

Good first step!

Indian Jan 13, 2016 08:07pm

India also needs to reciprocate and rein in their anti-pakistan lobbies,

We don't have Anti-Pakistan policies or lobbies. We have Pro-India policies and lobbies. Both are different if you know what I am talking.

Reader Jan 13, 2016 08:09pm

I doubt if Indian government will give Pakistan investigators access to Pathankot army base. That would be too much to ask for. They can ask questions and need answers but giving access to army base doesn't look like any country would do.

Same goes if this happened in Pakistan. Nothing wrong in it.

muddassar mahmood Jan 13, 2016 08:10pm

Our army and govt said many times about the indian involvement in the insurgency in Pakistan India never change but we faithful to India.india would demand do more and we would have nothing to give more

Deepak Jan 13, 2016 08:15pm

Nice start, I am longing to see the beautiful swat, hire some bright Pakistan software engineers. Hopefully my wishes will come true soon.

Amar Jan 13, 2016 08:17pm

Feels good to see co-operation between both countries. May this decade be the last one to see India-Pakistan haterate.

SBPM Jan 13, 2016 08:18pm

Kudos to Pakistan for taking quick action. I hope the momentum does not fizzle out like the 26/11 investigation.

lafanga Jan 13, 2016 08:18pm

@Joe I am not an investigator and I am sure neither are you judging from the ignorant comment. DNA is one thing. Investigators can also look at lot of things and ask the relevant questions which me and you are not trained for. This is the SOP in any criminal case the world over where investigators/lawyers from all sides are allowed access to the crime scene.

Alam Jan 13, 2016 08:26pm

India will never allow Pakistani Investigation team to visit Pathankot. India did not allow Pakistan to interrogate Ajmal Kasab. Even if Pakistan Investigation team is allowed they will not get cooperation. Uptill not a single suspect have been detained in India. India don't want any discussion on logistic support provided to attackers in India.

Rajesh Jan 13, 2016 08:28pm

Truly commendable work from Pak Govt...Inspite of intense pressure, they've arrested JEM chief...let there be dialogue for peace and prosperity of both nations !!!

Revolution Jan 13, 2016 08:29pm

Its a good step, but it cant be a one way street, India also needs to take action against the perpetrators of Samjhuata express and bring them to justice, then the trust deficit will narrow on both sides.

Alam Jan 13, 2016 08:31pm

We hope we can see some progress on Samjotha Express case after few years.

Jagmeet Jan 13, 2016 08:37pm

Appreciate it! Intentions of a man reflects in his actions. Way to go Mr.Nawaz Sharif.

Mumbai Indian Jan 13, 2016 08:41pm

That is commendable.

peace Jan 13, 2016 08:46pm

Every Pakistani should support Nawaj for this bold step!

Imran Ahmed Jan 13, 2016 08:47pm

Good move by Pakistan, brave of Nawaz Sharif. There are elements within Pakistan who wish to see continuous strife with India even at great cost to their own country. I am sure our neighbouring country has similarly demented citizens. Someone has to stop this thoroughly insane tit for tat between the two countries which mostly harms non combatants.

KJ Jan 13, 2016 08:51pm

@Abdul : "Good Move by Pak Govt. Development should be our agenda and terror is obstacle."

Words of wisdom. I wish this was recognized, many years ago.

Atif Khan Jan 13, 2016 08:52pm

Good decision. Eliminate the "gini in the bottle" and the "gini out of the bottle".

UD Jan 13, 2016 08:55pm

If Pakistan does not differentiate between good and bad Taliban and reign ' non state actors', then it can very well defeat all sorts of terrorism from its soil just as they have been doing in the lawless frontier areas for last two years. If that happens, then it will signal the beginning of a new era where poor and needy citizens from both the sides will live in peace and the region will thrive with peace, business and progress. Let's hope for the best. Let's do it.

Sarwar, USA. Jan 13, 2016 09:00pm

Let India allow Pakistan investigators take DNA samples of the terrorists to compare with our data.

Dave Jan 13, 2016 09:01pm

Now this is a fantastic rhetoric. I always teach my kids to plan for the future. Also there are good people across the world. If you can please listen to a song by Sting - Russians have children too. This was during the cold war and it is apt right now for Indians and Pakistanis

hari Jan 13, 2016 09:08pm

At long last Pakistan is seeing to their national interest!

wellwisher Jan 13, 2016 09:17pm

We have have seen many photos of joint meeting of Gen and PM Sharif. Both are seated at head of table. In present photo Gen is among the subordinates and PM is at head.A change which is welcome.

Realist Jan 13, 2016 09:22pm

Well done.

Alam Jan 13, 2016 09:35pm

Nawaz Sharif has done its best to avoid derailment of peace process and he don't want give any excuse to India for postponement of F.S. talks on 15th January. He has put Modi in awkward position. Postponement of scheduled talks of 15th January will force Pakistan to change its cooperative attitude and India can't blame Pakistan.

hzr Jan 13, 2016 09:36pm

There is so much to gain if friendly relations are established and these terror instigating groups are reined in.Who wants wars and ill will. Both nations are poor and both can prosper which is now hostage to these fringe groups.

Sudhir Neyalasinger Jan 13, 2016 09:43pm

Looks like Pakistan is serious this time. I hope this will lead to a new chapter in Indo-Pak relationships. We are brothers and we need to live together the way brothers do.

Madan Jan 13, 2016 09:47pm

This action is the right action which was overdue. My hats off to the PM and the COAS of Pakistan.Let us deal with each other honestly and the results will show up later.

Krishnan.r Jan 13, 2016 09:47pm

Well done Pakistan! This is positive turn around.

sbk Jan 13, 2016 09:49pm

The complete credit goes to the two Sharif. Pakistan need the services of both of them for a long time.

KJ Jan 13, 2016 09:55pm

@Alam, This is not a short term play. Neither India, nor Pakistan can afford to play a game. If they do, then they are stupid is all I can say. So this talk about making it awkward for PM Modi does not hold unless Pakistan is not serious about this, which does not appear to be the case. Both have a lot to lose by not being honest. This is now or never for Pakistan, with apparently so much good will from PM Sharif. Both the Pakistanis and Indians are looking forward to normalization of relations. The COAS should seize this opportunity to create a history for himself and his country. It is now or never for him to be permanently remembered as the only general who really made the difference.

asad lateef Jan 13, 2016 10:10pm

@Quick Justice for Pathankote the question is what about the india is going to take action againest its own citizens?

sidney Jan 13, 2016 10:11pm

India must now trust this new Pakistan, where the Government and Military are sincere about routing terrorists and the whole region would gain. The two PMs have shown maturity and after 70 years, the futility of sulking and carrying old grudges must be replaced by a new norm. Afterall, this is meant to be Asia's century and so much economic development is possible if peace prevails. Two business friendly PMs must move swiftly to gain from this new climate

Satyameva Jayate Jan 13, 2016 10:11pm

A step in the Right Direction. Now Pakistan needs to prove that it not merely a Show and Window Dressing by making it transparent to the Whole World by giving all the details: Who was arrested? What premises were raided? What offices were sealed? So that other Terror Exporters know what to expect.

Sudhir Neyalasinger Jan 13, 2016 10:12pm

@Alam I doubt that's the mood now. Indian agencies will share every piece of information they have with Pakistani agencies once they know Pakistan is serious about eliminating terror groups.

asad lateef Jan 13, 2016 10:13pm

@Mahesh modi was right? it was always nawaz sharif who advocated for peace through friendship.

wisdom Jan 13, 2016 10:21pm

Raheel Sharif for the Nobel Peace... anybody with me?

Gulfraz Jan 13, 2016 10:45pm

Now hopefully india can help Pakistan bring those who were responsible for samjhota express to be arrested and brought forward in the same spirit, if not, the next time this should be presented as an example and no help given. Lets hope the roads start to clear for a better 2016 for both countries.

Farooq Jawed Jan 13, 2016 11:00pm

@Taimoor Khan Give it a break man. Just appreciate the positive steps that are being demonstrated by both administrations. What's with these nonsensical conditions that you are suggesting. Arrests have already been made; they must have been based on some evidence, genius.

AK Jan 13, 2016 11:06pm

It's great to see some action. However, its a bit ridiculous to ask for access to a strategic military facility.

S.R Jan 13, 2016 11:19pm

Appreciate the right move by Pakistani leadership. Let us defeat terrorism jointly and create space for dialogue to improve peaces so that both our countries can prosper jointly. I hope both countries leaders agree that peace dividends will be more attractive than war prospects. With the leadership in place in both countries now there is real hope.

Rohit Jan 13, 2016 11:20pm

A positive step by Pak government to improve relation between the two country

Parvez Jan 13, 2016 11:23pm

Good fest step.......but it needs to be followed up to the end.

Sonny Afridi Jan 13, 2016 11:39pm

The core issue is Kashmir, where the Pakistani flag is displayed with pride for a reason. We all know why the concept of referendum petrifies the indians.

Nish Jan 13, 2016 11:51pm

I Applaud Mr. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. This is called the leader of a democracy. I will not reach to the final conclusion yet but a gutsy step indeed.

Ash Kumar Jan 13, 2016 11:57pm

Thank you. I will become a believer again and advocate peace with Pakistan if this happens in all seriousness. I see a glimmer of hope and it makes me wanna sing!!!

Uday Kulkarni Jan 14, 2016 12:16am

@lafanga - Understand your emotions and in principle yes if the investigators want to visit Pathankot airbase then why not ? But only so long as they are crime investigators of Pakistan and not strategic army personnel of Pakistan trying to visit a strategically important Indian airbase located only 50 km. inside the border ? But in principle yes India should allow visit for the investigation team to enable the investigation to reach logical conclusion and be able to punish the culprits.

Rajiv Jan 14, 2016 12:31am

Thanku Pakistan

Namo Jan 14, 2016 12:31am

Positive move by Pakistan government.

M Khan Jan 14, 2016 12:45am

Good to see Pakistan taking proactive role in finding the culprits of Pathankot incidence. We the people of India and Pakistan should join our hands to fight this menace which is keeping both countries hostage by creating bad environments for normal relations between the two countries .

Truth Jan 14, 2016 12:53am

Always positive from Pakistan side. Its good that India has taken a step to allow Pakistan to investigate the attacks and find out more info.

Mahendra Singh Jan 14, 2016 01:04am

Perhaps the finest thing to happen on this planet, who knows such steps could result India and Pakistan as best friends! Thanks a lot.. Really happy..

Aamir Shahzad Jan 14, 2016 01:06am

Very Nice job done. Now ball is in india's court. India should give full access to the investigation team from Pakistan and cooperate fully so that undeniable evidences are procured to take the perpetrators to task once and for all. Pakistan's sincerity in the issue is proved to be beyond doubt. Lets hope mature behavior is displayed on both sides.

Wise Jan 14, 2016 01:07am

This could be the turning point in India/Pak relationship and the beginning of joint efforts in dealing with militancy. The stakes are high and the consequences are dreadful. Sooner they jump into action, the better for peace in the region. Security of its citizen should be the number one priority of any national government. Working collaboratively is the way to get there not by undermining neighbors. At last that realization is dawning on our politicians.

Arvind Ajimal Jan 14, 2016 01:30am

Lot of things are happening. China wants a safe implementation and smooth functioning of CpEC for whatever benefit of theirs. They don't want same non state actors and other angry-with-state actors fighting each other right in the middle of this corridor. US has to pick a side and in the recent times, after Paris and then Californian Couple, and then Donald trump, we all know how this was framing up. So Pakistan govt, mainly the pm NS has to act.

There is little chance that India will allow pakistani investigation team in and around its airforce base. Can pakistan allow an indian team to probe inside its AF base. Lets see what Indians say.

We are serious this time Jan 14, 2016 01:33am

We hope you will help.. :) . Please do this time.. :)

jamshed Jan 14, 2016 01:53am

@Sudhanshu Swami Don't Modify it, please. It is our army that is instrumental and putting its full weight behind the descion.

Rehan Jan 14, 2016 01:59am

What is going on here??? Indians and Pakistanis on the same page and cooperating and coordinating with each other !!! Never seen this before. If the bonhomie continues likes this these two neighbors may settle all issues between them including Kashmir (which Nawaz and Vajpayee were about to). Not good for those who profit from selling arms and fear :P

jamshed Jan 14, 2016 01:59am

@Alam This is exactly my concern is. If that happens (which is very likely) then we are back to square one.

Zahid Khan Jan 14, 2016 02:08am

This is great and move towards the right direction and sincere working cooperation between Pakistani and Indian intelligence and criminal investigation agencies will help to eliminate evil which lives among us!

Khan- Pakistani Jan 14, 2016 02:09am

Can you also arrest the murders of our own people ?

Reality Bites Jan 14, 2016 02:46am

Good action. I am curious as to why do we have these groups residing in our country.

Sounds like they are not clandestine and hiding somewhere. All we had to do was go to the address and arrest some leaders and followers.

What purpose do they serve in our society. Hoping that they won't be just released back or be kept in a jail for later action.

komberi Jan 14, 2016 03:01am

If NS is doing this to score political points, there will be no benefits to Pakistan and India as well. If the culprits are treated as such, then it will help to improve the image of the country and the reality on the ground as well.

indian Jan 14, 2016 03:03am

I never thought I would see this day. Guess there are few good people who really want to change and take our countries in correct direction towards growth, prosperity, peace and happiness.

Nev Schutz Jan 14, 2016 03:07am

Why this fuss?

DNA analysis of the perpetrators would be able to easily identify parentage with respect to location of origin.

wasim Jan 14, 2016 03:11am

involving pakistan that there main purpose.

BNS Jan 14, 2016 03:23am

Good steps. If the alleged terrorists were from Pakistan or got some support from Pakistan, they should be apprehended. In any case, support should be provided to India to help them completing their investigation. Terrorist attacks anywhere are bad anywhere, be it India.

N_Saq Jan 14, 2016 03:35am

If India and Pak are serious about this incident and want to get to the bottom of the case then let the US or European agencies carry out the investigation on both sides of the border and let them share the investigation result with the general public in open and transparent manner.

Doodh ka doodh and pani ka pani...

Vijay(Toronto) Jan 14, 2016 03:41am

@Alam Hey braniac! They are in jail already.

Geo D Jan 14, 2016 04:42am

There is more in common between Pakistan and India than between Pakistan and any Middle eastern nation or India and any other country. Having lived in the Middle East for years, I see so much in common between our folks. If we work together, Pakistan and India can become a world power and our people will see prosperity.

ahmed Jan 14, 2016 04:45am

A very mature and appreciative response by Pakistan to harmonize the peace process. India is expected to respond positively to allow Pakistani investigators to visit pathankot. lets beat the scourage of terrorism together.

Truthful Jan 14, 2016 05:50am

This indeed is an encouraging development but the question is why these banned organizations continue to operate freely. The government should be more serious and forcefully implement the National Action Plan.

Saleem USA Jan 14, 2016 06:17am

@Meow Which track is India on regarding samjhota express and Indian parliament attack???

Saleem USA Jan 14, 2016 06:19am

@Ahmed USA Totally agree with your rational comment, but whether this happens is to be seen, most likely at that point India will start dilly dallying because it will expose their own faults and weakness as well.

Raja Jan 14, 2016 07:12am

Since Pakistan was blamed before the attack ended. It seems like purpose of Pathankot attack is to pressurize Pakistan and free India from covert activities in Pakistan.

Rohit Jan 14, 2016 09:25am

Good step by Pakistan

meow Jan 14, 2016 01:44pm

for the first time you can hope to see some change

Ali Jan 14, 2016 08:55pm

We applaud Pakistan and India working together to get to the attackers of Indian air base. All terrorists are evil, regardless of their religious or political affiliations. Pakistan must stop good Taliban bad Taliban nonsense. India must stop sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan, especially Baluchistan. Iran must stop sponsoring terrorism in the region and the Middle East. Afghanistan must stop allowing terrorists to use it's territory to attack Pakistan. If all these countries unite against terrorism, then the people of the region can live in peace, friendship and prosperity.

rehan Jan 15, 2016 12:03pm

Pakistan is very serious about fighting terrorism. Whether it's terrorists supported by India inside Pakistan or terrorists at home, Pakistan would crush them mercilessly .

rehan Jan 15, 2016 12:11pm

Interesting to see now NS is being the credit for something that he has no role in !
